Never Find Out “Too Late” That Someone Else Owns Your Associates

As you may know, large affiliate networks have also built associate management systems, but there are some major differences.

First, they take a big percentage of all the sales generated by your associates. So as you recruit more associates, and generate more sales, you’re writing bigger and bigger checks each month to your associate system provider (ASP)… even though they’re providing the same basic service.

Should you really have to pay an ever-increasing penalty as you become more and more successful?

Some, for example, charge you $1295 (in setup fees) for the “privilege” of giving up a percentage of your revenue every month… forever!

Incredibly, you’re bound to pay them 30% of what you pay your associates. It used to be 20%, but they got greedy and raised it! So if you pay your associates $7.50 for every $25.00 sale (i.e. a 30% commission), you must also pay $2.50 to them.

Worse, in order to keep your associate program and all of your associates, you become obligated to pay them a minimum of $250.00 per month – forever – no matter how many sales you make!

Using the above example, if your associates generate thirty $25 sales in a month ($750 in total sales) – and you pay out $225 in associate commissions, your obligation to them will not be $67.50 (the standard 30% of what you paid your associates). It’ll be $250 – which is more than you paid your associates – because that’s the monthly minimum!

And if you’re paying associates for leads (i.e. visitors they drive to your site who fill out your registration form), you’ll be obligated to pay them a minimum fee of $0.30 per lead. So if you only want to pay associates $0.10 per lead, you can multiply that by four!

You Could Lose Your Entire Sales Force – Absolutely The
Biggest Risk Of Choosing A Commission-Based Program

In spite of what I’ve explained, suppose that you still choose a large affiliate network… or any of the other commission-based ASPs. Now picture yourself six months from now, getting this email from your ASP:

“Dear Client, we’ve decided to raise our monthly minimums, along with the size of our commission.”

Since large affiliate networks have no qualms about bumping their rates from 20% to 30%, who’s to stop them – or any of their competitors – from repeating this move, and raising their commissions to 40% or higher?
