Game Description

Half-Life combines the visceral action of legendary action games like Doom with great storytelling in the tradition of Stephen King. Half-Life blends action, drama, and adventure with stunning technology to create a frighteningly realistic world where players need to think smart to survive.

Throughout the game, both friends and foes behave in sophisticated and unpredictable ways, a result of Half-Life's powerful and innovative artificial intelligence. The intensity of the game also reflects the strong storyline, created by award-winning horror novelist Marc Laidlaw. Of course there's also a variety of exciting multiplayer scenarios, and an easy-to-use interface that will have you connected to the game of your choice in just seconds.

Editor Review

When Half Life first appeared on store shelves, nobody knew much about it. Soon the word spread that this was no mere Quake clone - friendly characters, intelligent plot, excellent level design...all of these things and more easily made Half-Life game of the year. Hotgames.com got flooded with desperate emails, asking where the demo was. It would have been easy for Valve and Sierra to hack out a sample level from their award-winning Half Life, slap a new front end on it and release it as a demo. So here we are a few months later and they've finally blessed us with a demo to try. But wait, what's this? A whole NEW, COMPLETE, episode of Half-Life? WHOA! What an excellent idea. If only everyone else did this...

Anyway, you star in Half-Life as Gordon Freeman, who not only is a top-grade nuclear scientist but also knows how to deal with the escaped, mutated critters that wander around the halls of his top secret, high security laboratory. When an unexpected explosion occurs, Gordon (and his super-duper containment suit) is sent out to see what's up. Of course, nobody bothered to alert the gung-ho guards of your impending arrival...

Sure, you've played plenty of first person shooters before, but Half-Life honestly takes the genre to a new level. The way scientists and guards talk to you and each other, the huge stages that you can make a little bit more progress in each time you play, the absolutely amazing animation...it all adds up to a totally immersive gaming experience that makes everything else look quite shoddy in comparison. Get this, it's one of the few things that makes playing computer games worthwhile.
