Taya Eyes New Challenge
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – Now that she has a contract with Vivid, Taya is contemplating her first anal scene.
"Well, they want me to. I said, 'Just give me some time and I’ll work on it,'" she says. "But I haven’t worked on it yet. … I’m really scared of that, really scared. I got to find some type of toy that’ll help me."
The 20-year-old says she tried it once.
"When I was 15, but not since then, and it hurt like hell," Taya tells me. "And ever since then, I was like, 'uh, uh.' A lot of people were offering a lot of money for me to do it and I was like, ‘No. Not me. Not ever.'"
The native of Tempe, Ariz. entered the business when she was 18 and performed in about 50 videos as Tiffany Mason. She changed her stage name when she signed a one-year deal in July.
"We were debating on it," Taya says during a break on the set of her first Vivid video, Watch Me. "And I’m happy that I did change my name because I just feel like I’m more than Tiffany Mason ever was now. … But Tiffany Mason still was… That was a cool name. I still worked it up to a good name. But I think I needed to change it, because I’m not the same person I was two years ago."
She continues, "I think I’m a little bit more mature now to handle everything and really do it the way I want to do it."
Still, the tall beauty began to turn heads as soon as she walked onto the adult scene, earning a nomination for Best New Starlet for the 2001 AVN Awards Show.
"Even though I didn’t win it, it was a pleasure to be nominated," Taya says. "I enjoyed the publicity and all the congratulations. I enjoyed every last bit of it."
Taya says the way she presents herself is much different from when she first started. There is a time and place for everything, she explains.
"I don’t like to be flaunting my ass out there, like I’m so and so, which I did when I was 18, when I first got into the business," Taya tells me. "I used to wear these short-ass skirts and dresses with cuts all the way up to here. I used to walk around wearing stilettos because that’s how I thought you had to act being a porn star.
"But that was just too much attention and some of it was bad attention."
The new Vivid Girl says the porn lifestyle can be tough to handle for some performers.
"Just as long as you keep to yourself, it’s really a cool business. Go in, take care of your business, don’t be an ass. Don’t be on drugs and you’re cool," Taya says. "I’m just happy I’m one of the few that hasn’t went to drugs in this business."
She recalls an instance when someone's lifestyle choice was in her face.
"I was hanging around with a girl that was in the business that was on crack and coke and I didn’t even know," she says. "And then when she started doing it in front of me and asked me to do it with her I was like, 'Oh, no. You’re crazy.' And after that I just left her alone because she started saying that I was doing it.
"Really, I don’t like to hang around anybody in the business. My personal life is my personal life. Porn is porn. "
She says that director/performer David "Pussyman" Christopher, her manager who is also directing Watch Me, has played a key role in her new career path. His ties with Vivid helped get her through the door and Taya took it from there.
"Honestly, I always just was like… I never thought it would happen to me," she says.
