Best New Starlet Nominee: Violet Blue
An AVNInsider Interview
Munching on roasted peanuts and sipping a can of Coke, Violet Blue was a giggly, laughing, happy starlet when she stopped by the AVN offices. She brought in home-baked chocolate chip cookies in an effort to win the hearts of AVN's editorial staff and I collared her for this interview.
Heidi Pike-Johnson: So tell me where you are from.
Violet Blue: I'm from Washington state. I lived in a little tiny town called Pacific Beach. It had about 300 people.
HPJ: That's a pretty spot.... That's a really tiny town...what did you do there?
VB: I was a waitress at my mom's restaurant from the time I was 12 to when I was 17.
HPJ: How did you find porn?
VB: I moved to Vegas when I was 19, stayed there for a couple months. I danced to support my boyfriend and his sister because they couldn't find jobs and they had gotten kicked out of their parents' house. Then I kicked them out of my house, moved to Salt Lake City for a guy. It didn't work out. I stayed in Salt Lake City, danced there and that's where I met my old agent, Roy Garcia. He took me out here and I was going to only do nude modeling. I wasn't going to do any porn.
HPJ: Why not?
VB: I just wasn't comfortable with it. Then after about two weeks, I was so broke and my agent couldn't get me any work until I said that I would do porn. Once I tried it, I loved it. I was like, "Yes! This is a GREAT job!"
HPJ: So it's the sexual thing? Getting laid and getting paid?
VB: Exactly.
HPJ: It's interesting...you would have to have a very open heart to support people like you have and to move and to do the things you have done.
VB: Yeah, I seem to do it a lot. I'm supporting my husband right now.
HPJ: What haven't you done in your career yet that you would really like to?
VB: I need to get a Website up! I've talked to so many people but it just doesn't seem to happen. I mean, you've gotta get members and traffic...Websites are a pain in the butt!
HPJ: I coulda told you that...
VB: I want to do more features. I love acting. That's the fun part of making porn -- well, it's the fun part right before the sex...It's fun to work on big-budget things.
HPJ: Is there a performer whose career you would like to emulate? Someone you think has done it right?
VB: Tera Patrick. I would love to have my own show on the Internet or TV. I just want to go as far as I can in this business. I've never even seen one of Tera's movies. It's just how she is known. It's like how Jenna Jameson is known. I wanna be known...I just want to be famous. Give me fame!
HPJ: What was your first movie like?
VB: I was with Ed Powers.
HPJ: What was that like?
VB: I was nervous so they gave me some vodka and orange juice.
HPJ: That was nice.
VB: So I got drunk. I wasn't drunk off my butt but I definitely had a good buzz. I did my scene with Jay Ashley which was really funny because the only porno I had seen in my whole life had Jay Ashley in it as one of the main roles.
HPJ: What kind of porn did you like to watch before you got into the busines?
VB: I personally liked the 4 hours comps that were nothing but four hours of straight sex but when I got to be about 20 or 21, I got to like the ones that were like a real movie.
HPJ: How old are you now?
VB: I'm 24.
HPJ: Really?
VB: Yeah, I'm almost 25. Watch out, world.
HPJ: You have such a great sense of humor. It seems like you would be great in comic features. Has anyone offered you a contract?
VB: Nothing. Not a one. I want to work for VCA, I would really like to work for Wicked someday too. I have worked for Vivid twice. If I was offered a contract, I would want to wait for a year or so. You don't make as much money when you are a contract girl. You get promoted real good so I'm kinda scared that having a contract would end my career in a way.
HPJ: You do a lot of boy/girl but do you do girl/girl? I don't think I have seen you do that.
VB: No. I do it sometimes in my personal life and this is going to sound really awful but I just don't like the taste of porno pussy. There is just nothing good about douching! I don't like the taste of douche.
HPJ: What do you like most about doing porn?
VB: The money is great but the people are the best. I like the people. I like everything about porn. It's hard to decide on just one factor. Everything about it is cool.
HPJ: So what do you do to relax? What kind of music do you listen to?
VB: I like all kinds. I had Type O Negative in my CD player yesterday. I listen to '80s music, I listened to Enya the other day. I'm pretty well-rounded in the music department. Gothic and industrial, the Violent Femmes, Jane's Addiction, pretty much everything.
HPJ: What video has your best scene in it?
VB: My Ass 12 with Dave Hardman for Notorious. I thought it was going to be an awful scene because Dave Hardman is not the most attractive man in the world and I took one look at him and started thinking about how I was going to fake this one. He is so good at fucking me in the ass, though, it's not even funny! He is good. If I could have Dave Hardman fuck me in the ass for the rest of my life, I would never do another d.p. or anal scene with anybody else but him. He is the best. I was very, very happy. I came three times. It looked good too. The opening line to the scene was great too: "What's a whore like you doing working out?" That's beautiful!
HPJ: What do you want to do long-range?
VB: I want to be a dermatologist. I want to cure psoriasis because I have two friends who have it. I also want to cure eczema because I had it on my feet when I was a kid. I had trouble walking because of it but this Chinese doctor cured it for me. I just want to help people. Skin is just the most important thing about a person.
HPJ: It's the biggest organ.
VB: Exactly. And when you look at someone and see that they have got icky skin, it means that they have a bad diet or something. This is a long range thing, though.
HPJ: So how is it being nominated for Best New Starlet?
VB: I'm so excited! I already have my dress. When I found out, I just jumped around the room and laughed until I was crying. I was so excited just to be nominated. I can't believe that I was nominated.
HPJ: Why not? You do good work.
VB: I know. I just couldn't believe that someone had noticed me because I don't have big titties, I guess. I don't have a feature. There are a lot of reasons why I wouldn't be noticed but God, I hope I get it...I hope the cookies helped! Did anyone else bring cookies?
HPJ: I don't believe anyone else baked cookies.
VB: Well, I think getting Best New Starlet made Tera Patrick. I'm hoping that if I get it, it will do the same for me. If I don't get it, I'll clap for the person who does. If I don't get it, I hope either Calli [Cox] or Haven gets it, because they both deserve it. Calli is a blonde with big boobs and she is fun to hang out with so I would be cool with her getting it and Haven is obviously doing well because she's with Jill Kelly. She's already contract.
HPJ: So what is coming up for you?
VB: I'm in Tachophobia. I act and there's a lot of really funny bloopers. It was a lot of fun working there. It was so relaxed yet we got a lot of stuff done. There were people kung fu fighting and explosions and fast cars! It was amazing. Next is The Whore of the Rings with Kylie Ireland. Jim Lane is going to do it for Notorious. I don't know anything about it but it's going to be cool!
