Les Vampyres 2: Out For Blood
CHATSWORTH, Calif.- By all outward appearances, it's just another grueling, hot Sunday afternoon. But inside the Sin City building on Deering Avenue, writer/director James Avalon is in the midst of creating a porno nightmare.
We’re on the set of Les Vampyres 2, the sequel to Avalon's multiple AVN Award-winning opus of 2000. The dressing room is packed with starlets: Nikita Denise and Holly Hollywood (the 'good' vampires), Syren and Ava Vincent (the 'bad' vampires) Kali Styles (who doesn't get naked), Kelli Sparks (sporting devil horns), Belladonna (covered in body paint as a spooky skeleton girl) and Kate Frost (whose role involves writhing in a cage). Quasarman is cheerfully roaming around with his trusty video camera, capturing footage of the ladies in various states of undress. A voice cries out in the darkness: "This is porno anarchy!" Someone else replies, "Yeah, but she's got exemplary buttocks."
Today's shoot encompasses the climax of the movie, which will include a landmark "four girl vampire orgy and blood-fest." Unfortunately, we don't get to see any sex or gore; since this is a bona fide film shoot, the production is moving at a slower pace than the usual video fodder. Intrigued by the use of celluloid, we ask publicist Harry Weiss for the name of the DP. He looks baffled; those letters don't stand for Director of Photography here. We ask Nikita what she'll be doing in the film and she huskily answers: "I kill Syren. With spike."
The set is designed to represent a goth nightclub with a Day of the Dead theme (the holiday, not the George Romero movie). A live band plays surf music as onlookers pretend to sip dry-ice drinks; smoke billows into the room from a machine just out of frame. Avalon does a number of impressive dolly shots tracking through the decadent crowd of revelers, with the supporting female cast members grinding booty for the camera. Between the extravagant costumes, morbid black-clad extras, the overload of T&A;, and the idea of Joel Lawrence morphing into Holly Hollywood, we're stunned.
After finishing up the dolly shots, Avalon directs a dialogue scene with Nikita and Syren facing off in preparation for the final showdown. Metro publicist Weiss appears as a barfly who buys the girls Bloody Marys (groan.) Another dialogue scene has Denise and Hollywood strutting into the club and passing a dorky guy stationed at the entrance. The dude tries a lame pickup line: "Haven't I seen you somewhere before?" The two vamps shine him on, Nikita delivering the comeback in her best Transylvanian accent: "Ve are here for the same reason you are… to meet girls."
They exit, leaving the would-be womanizer babbling to himself in confusion. "That's not right," he says. "That's not right at all."
Who says porn movies aren't realistic?
