Galina Maniachenko was a successful junior pair skater, winning the bronze medal with Evgeni Gilgurski at the
1994 Junior World Championships. In 1995, she was severly injured in practice when her partner hit her in the
face with his blade during a side by side camel spin. Maniachenko retired from skating for one and a half years
and then decided to come back as a single skater.
