The Rock came ready to play last night at Twin Elm Rugby Park and came away with an impressive 34 - 6 victory over the Ottawa Harlequins. The game's momentum was continuously interrupted by whistles, penalties, an injury to referee Marcelo Cantarovic and finally for an hour by a spectaular electrical storm with torrential ran.
The Rock opened the scoring with a Keven Parfrey penalty after four minutes. Harlequins flyhalf Simon Rodgers evened the score two minutes later and added another at 13 minutes to give the Quins a 6 -3 lead. Play was fairly even until Rock #8 Goodland made an incisive run into Harlequins territory and to set up the wing Wilson who raced in from 20 meters to score and the Rock went ahead 8 -6. After more sustained pressure, the opposite wing Rudofsky scored in the right corner at 28 minutes. Parfrey converted and the Rock were ahead 15 - 6. The score remained such until the half.
Eight minutes into the second half heavey wind and rain began and it became obvious that a serious electrical storm was close behind. Play was delayed for the next hour until danger had passed. Just three minutes after the resumtion the Rock posted thir third try when flyhalf J. Cooper broke through the Harlequins defence. Kevin Parfrey added the conversion. The Rock 22, the Harlequins 6. Scumhalf Mike Simpson raced through the defence from 30 meters, Parfrey converted and the score near the end was now 29 - 6. The Rock finished off the scoring after the Quins took a series of penalties near their line as hooker P.Densmore crashed over. The final score 34 -6
