Reports of the Special Commission on
Complementary and Alternative
Medical Practitioners

The Director of the Division of Professional Licensure, Bill Wood, recently chaired a Special Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medical Practitioners. This group was charged by the Legislature with conducting a study of the use and need for licensing complementary and alternative medical practitioners, specifically naturopathic doctors, in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As a result of this process, two reports have been issued, a majority report, recommending licensure of naturopathic practitioners, and a minority report, concluding that licensure was not appropriate. Commission member State Senator Richard T. Moore, who did not sign either report, drafted a letter explaining his views on the issue. That letter, along with both reports is available on our Web site.

Both of these reports* are available at our Web site. Copies can also be viewed at the State State House Library.
