17 Minnesota Artists Awarded $136,000 in
Poetry and Prose Fellowships

Saint Paul, MN -- The Minnesota State Arts Board recently made grants totaling $136,000 to seventeen Minnesota poets and writers.

Each year, the Arts Board offers fellowships in eight artistic disciplines to recognize, reward, and encourage outstanding Minnesota artists at various stages in their careers. Fellowships allow artists to set aside time to work, to purchase materials or supplies, or to achieve specific career goals.

From 213 applications, peer advisory panels selected seventeen artists to receive $8,000 each. Fellowship panels are made up of four to seven arts professionals and arts administrators. Grantees were evaluated for artistic quality and the merit of their fellowship plans.

The Minnesota State Arts Board is a state agency dedicated to enriching the cultural lives of all Minnesotans. Funds for Minnesota State Arts Board programs are provided through an appropriation from the Minnesota State Legislature, with additional funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
