Requiem:Avenging
Angel © 3DO/Cyclone
Studios
Well
here it is folks as we promised a review of Requiem: Avenging Angel
that is sure to excite you. Being an angel is not as easy as it
seems, you must save the earth from Hell's fallen demons and blast
your way through new futuristic settings, interact with other
characters and develop new angelic powers such as: Possession,
Flight, Bloodboil and the ability to turn enemies to salt. Can you
save earth from the clutches of the most treacherous army of soldiers?
First
I am going to talk about the graphics because they really impressed
me, the way that they were fresh and a lot livelier than other games
graphics. It seems as if a lot of effort was put into the character
molds and overall structures of the different environments. It also
seems that every character in the game and that goes for even the
one's who are just bystanders on the streets, have all different
traits and differ from each other in appearance. The weapons are very
detailed and are very ahead of their time because they do not look
like the same old molds of weapons in other games. For example, the
shotgun looks like some out of space gun which is very unique and in
other games you would see the classic shotgun or something to that
effect which is very played out and old.
The
sound has been marvelously recorded and is very high quality. Another
great thing is that the mouths of the characters actually move in
time with the words so it looks like the words are actually coming
out of the characters mouth and it doesn't look like some poorly
dubbed, low quality game, like the quake clones. The music is also
exciting because when you are fighting sub bosses in different levels
there is always some diabolical or mysterious music going on in the
background to add extra feel to the game.
What
stands out in this game is most definitely the gameplay; I haven't
ever witnessed such gameplay as in depth as Requiem's. The story line
is great and at the beginning of the game you start in what looks to
be a place like Hell, and you must find the portal to teleport
yourself to Earth. There are a few small monsters to defeat in the
beginning when you're in Hell but nothing to strenuous, Lilith who is
the second main boss in the game appears to you as a ghost and tries
to stop you from going to earth to save everyone. When you find the
portal and arrive at Earth, you're first mission is to seek the
rebellion and tell them how you can help them in defeating their
enemies and yours. The thing I liked most about the gameplay is that
you have to battle soldiers as well as enemies from Hell and in
between assignments Lilith appears to you. This puts you up against
some of the scariest opponents you could ever think of which needless
to say Lilith does not want you to succeed.
When
you finally meet Lilith and defeat her she tells you that you may be
able to defeat her but you will never defeat him. Now, I am not going
to spoil the surprise of who 'HE' is because that would be unfair of
me but I will say that when you meet and discover who HE is you will
be completely dumbfounded. Requiem has been made like an award-winning
movie because it has a story line that will leave you wanting more
and wondering what is going to happen next. The controlling and
handling of the game is quite easy and you have a lot of angelic
powers such as Flight, BloodBoil, Possession and Exorcist as well as
many more that can be used to conquer you're enemies. It is good how
human weapons have been included as well as these angelic powers
because I have been sick of only being able to use normal weapons in
games. It seems you already know what each weapon is going to do and
it is fun to have a whole lot of changes in such a great FPS like Requiem.
Overall,
Requiem is the best FPS (First Person Shooter) that has been
released so far this year. Personally, I don't know how any other FPS
this year is going to compare to it because it is just such a
complete game and it has a whole new fresh outlook for a FPS game
that is something I and many others have been waiting for.
