As the millennium crusade of Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke entered its second day in Abeokuta Thursday, no fewer than three elderly persons were feared dead during a stampede.
The three victims all male and in their late 60s were apparently trampled upon by the large crowd of other able bodied persons who were present for the miracle crusade.
The development could neither be denied or confirmed by the organisers of the crusade, sympathizers claimed must have been occasioned by the size of the venue in relation to the large population of those in attendance.
Since the beginning of the crusade, close to 100,000 worshippers have been trooping to the stadium of just about 35,000 capacity.
Though, some of the hospitals visited to confirm receiving corpse of injured people denied, sources however maintained that those bodies were brought there.
THISDAY learnt that the victims and the injured ones were among the worshippers who were outside the stadium, but when suddenly the gates were flung opened, they got trampled upon by the crowd, as their health could not withstand the milling crowd.
There was commotion and pandemonium when the incident occurred as people started running halter skeker for safety.
However, participants at the crusade who confirmed that there was a stamped, but saw those involved were revived by prayers.
Unconfirmed reports said however that families of the victims had come to collect them.
