Twenty four police officers were injured during the disturbance near Portadown on Sunday.

David Cully, 43, from Gosford Gardens in Markethill, Alan Cheney, 17, from Rogan Manor, Glengormley and Mark Wilson, 37, from the Beeches, Maghera, appeared before Craigavon Magistrate's Court on Monday.

All three were charged with riotous assembly which is listed as a scheduled offence or one linked to civil unrest.

All three men were automatically remanded in custody and are expected to apply for High Court bail.

A police constable told the court the more serious charge had been preferred because of the number and extent of police injuries at Drumcree.

The court was told that when the charge was put to him, Alan Cheney said:"The only thing I can say is sorry".

Mark Wilson said: "I believe this is political discrimination, being charged with a scheduled offence.

David Cully said: "I'm sorry. I apologise for my behaviour."

The constable said he believed he could connect all three men to the charge.

They were remanded in custody until 25 July.
