White Clouds

Tanichthys Alabonubes

White Clouds come from the moutain streams of Hong Kong and Canton China. They are the perfect community fish and school. White Clouds prefer cooler water and like a temperature range of between 62ºF and 70ºF; if the temperature rises above 80ºF they will die. White Clouds grow to approx. 1½ inches. Their body colour is olive green with a reddish gold stripe running the length of their body; this ends in a black spot at the base of the tail. Just beneath this there is another greenish stripe. The belly is dusty white; thedorsal and anl fins pale yellow and bordered with deep red; the tail is bright red. Of the two, the female is larger and fuller, although her colours are somewhat duller than those of the male.

White Clouds are very easy to breed. Choose a pair that are approx. one year old. Keep the seperate and fed on live food for approx. one week. You will need a five gallon, well-planted tank; PH 6.5-7.5. The water must be clean and the tank placed in a sunny place for one week. Raise the temperature of the breeding tank to 72ºF to 75ºF and place the pair in. The male will swim around the female displaying his fins and coplours. The male will then begin to cuddle the female, and the eggs will fall into the plants. You don't need to remove the parents after spawning as long as they are kept well fed. The eggs are small and transparent and will hatch in approx. 24 hours. The fry are free-swimming in approx. 4-6 days. Feed small Infusona or very fine dry food. The water in the tank will need to be kept stable and no water changes for approx. two weeks. When young, baby White Clouds tend to look like baby Neons.
