LOS ANGELES, February 5, 2002 --The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) today announced the finalists for the 5th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards. Additional event supporters include BioWare Corp., Insomniac Games, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Loeb & Loeb LLP, Treanor Brothers Animation and Cresa Partners.

“With a spectacular selection of finalists and top-tier sponsors, we are ready for a truly exciting evening in Las Vegas,” said Academy President Paul Provenzano. “The diversity, breadth, and quality of this year’s finalists reflect how much the audience for interactive entertainment has grown, and that the games industry has answered the call of providing the highest quality of entertainment for people of all ages and interests.”

Peer panel review boards made up of individual Academy members with specific expertise in each of the categories were established to determine the finalists for the awards. Award recipients will be determined by a vote of the Academy’s membership, which will begin Wednesday, February 6, and run until Friday, February 15, 2002. Interactive Academy voting is secret, conducted online using the Web Administered Voting Environment developed by Subvergent Inc., and supervised and certified by PricewaterhouseCoopers. Membership in AIAS is open to all qualified individuals working in the interactive industry.

The Academy will present Interactive Achievement Awards in 29 craft, console, computer and online categories on Thursday, February 28, at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, in conjunction with the D.I.C.E. Summit. Highlights include an overall Game of the Year, as well as the induction of Will Wright, chief designer and co-founder of Maxis and creator of SimCity and The Sims, as the 5th annual inductee into the Academy’s Hall of Fame. The D.I.C.E.
