PIKE COUNTY'S BOUNDARIES

Pike County at Statehood: 01 Mar 1803

When Ohio entered the United States as the thirteenth state on 01 Mar 1803, Pike County had yet to be created from land taken out of Adams County (blue), Scioto County (gold) and Ross County (red). These three counties comprised the largest part of the Lower Scioto Valley. The Scioto River, the Scioto Trail (which ran north-south from Chillicothe to Portsmouth), and Zane's Trace (which, in this area, ran from northeast of Chillicothe through Cynthiana and onward through Adams County) were the principal thoroughfares for migrating families wanting to reach what would soon become Pike County.
