I want to thank all the voters of the Fifth District for your support and for the opportunity to represent you in the United States House of
Representatives. It is truly an honor and a privilege to have been elected to serve you in Congress.
This election began with a commitment to ensuring that President Bush had someone in Congress who would stand firm with him working to pass an
agenda for the American people.
Today, we are going to continue with this idea - fighting for the issues that matter most to our families.
Thanks to your hard work, we now have a historic opportunity to provide all Americans with true economic prosperity, a stronger homeland defense,
and a commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind.
Economic prosperity begins by cutting taxes, which puts more money back into the pockets of all Americans and spurs growth and investment in our
businesses. More money in our businesses means more jobs and security for all Americans.
Homeland Security requires a sustained strategy and it should remain our top priority.
I fully support President Bush’s plan to create a permanent department of homeland security, improved intelligence capabilities, and protection against bioterrorism.
A strong and effective national defense is also one of my chief priorities. We need adequate levels of defense funding to assure readiness,
modernization and our quality of life. I will not take this responsibility lightly, that is why I will continue to support U.S. military personnel through restored U.S. military readiness and boost efforts to
defend the homeland from terrorism and ballistic missile attack.
We must also continue our promise to all of our American children that they will have the right tools to succeed. It is about giving our
public schools the resources, tools, and encouragement to get our kids started off on the right foot. We must continue to expand President Bush’s initiative of ensuring that no child in left behind.
We have no time to relax. We must continue our fight to help every American. We must work to foster a culture in America of citizenship
and responsibility to make America a better place. Together we can do this, but we must begin now.
Again, I thank you for your support and trust you have put in me to represent you in Washington, D.C.
As your Congressman, I look forward to addressing the concerns of each and every one of you.
Congressman-elect Scott Garrett
New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District
