Spring, 1808
Pg 348. Liberty Twp, Hillsborough, Highland Co.
As soon as the weather would permit in the spring of 1808,
the work of building up the town of Hillsborough commenced
with great vigor. During the bright, pleasant days of the latter
part of March and the first of April, the sound of the axe saw
and hammer, mingled with the crash of falling trees, was heard
on all sides. Men were busy with timber already down; hewing,
logging off, cutting board timber, and making boards and shingles;
and this without the aid of saw mills. Houses were much in
demand which was a favorable indication for the rapid growth of
the town. Those who came from a distance had to accommodate
themselves in tents until houses could be built. A number of
persons in the vicinity, who had purchased lots at the sale, with
the intention of improving them soon turned up small buildings to
meet the demand of newcomers.

John HUTSINPILLER, a Virginian . . came in the spring of this year
from Chillicothe.

1819-1820
Pg 364. About the same time (1819 - 1820) a wool carding
machine was started by George and Jacob SHAFER, on West
Street and a few years earlier John HUTSINPILLER operated
one on Main Street, where now stands the KRAMER house.

1835
Pg 465. Clay Twp
John HUTSENPILLER bought out Mr. GRIFFITH's tavern
near Henry RUBLE's and kept it for a number of years. He built
a small distillery which lasted eight or ten years beginning about
1835. In connection with it he established quite an extensive grain
market, and for many years did a good business at it. He
sold out the tavern to the TAGGARTS about 1836.
