Publisher's Description
The Kazaa Media Desktop is a second-generation peer-to-peer file-sharing service with which you can search and download media files from other Kazaa users. You can also organize, view, and play your media files through an integrated media jukebox, publish your own work, reach an audience, and communicate with other Kazaa users. Kazaa supports audio, video, images, documents, and other file formats. It features recommendations and an automated feature that lets people communicate with contacts.

Version 2.1 offers a new Web interface with sections for audio files, computer games, software, video content, and Kreate; rights-managed files provided through Altnet are displayed as gold icons in the search results screen and will release more gold icons in response to demand from content creators and owners.

Version 2.1.1 fixes a major security vulnerability in the FastTrack network.

Note:The Download Now link will download a small (160KB) installation file to your computer. Remain connected to the Internet and double-click the installation file to complete installation. The maximum download file size for full installation is 4.66MB.

Editor's note: This download includes additional applications bundled with the software's installer file. Third-party applications bundled with this download may record your surfing habits, deliver advertising, collect private information, or modify your system settings. Pay close attention to the end user license agreement and installation options. For more information, read's guide to adware. Review
Utilizing the decentralized FastTrack file-sharing network, Kazaa Media Desktop offers its users the ability to easily search for and download audio, video, and software. Its huge participant base allows for an extremely large number of available files, and a built-in player and media management tools assist users in working with their downloaded material.

Because of the nature of P2P networks, the rate of download completion is quite low, and though a number of titles may be returned by Kazaa's search, many of those titles may still not be downloadable for various reasons (users dropping off the network, another user requesting the same file, and so on). Kazaa also only offers one search window, so every new search will erase the previous one.

Kazaa comes bundled with a third-party software product, SaveNow, that delivers pop-up ads based on user location, browsing history, and terms entered into search engines. In another method of offsetting its free price, Kazaa features highly prominent advertising (of the most spam-worthy ilk) in its status bar and toolbars, and plants icons for Kazaa Shop and Kazaa Promotions on the desktop. In addition, users must opt-out of certain functions such as Kazaa launching on Windows start-up. Kazaa's Web site offers very little in the way of installation help and certainly offers no e-mail or phone support.

Kazaa Media Desktop is a tremendous resource for online file sharing, but users should be aware of the difficulties inherent in the software. For more information about Kazaa, be sure to read's guide to installing Kazaa.
