After preliminary rounds, 3 last placed teams from each group departs from competition. The remaining teams gathers in two groups of main round by system A+B, and C+D.
Teams participating in main round play matches only with opponents from different preliminary group. Points scored between teams that go from same preliminary group into same main round group are added.

Total of 24 national teams will participate o n XVIth Women's World Handball Championship Croatia 2003. 14 from Europe, 3 from Asia, 3 from Africa, 3 from Pan-American teritory, and 1 from Oceania.
Europe - 14 teams:
Final draw will hold on 22. June 2003. after the qualification finishes. Already qualified teams are: Croatia (host), Russia (defending champion), Denmark, Norway and France which won their participating right on rankings at recently finished European Championship in Denmark.

Qualifications are done, Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina gain the right to participate on WCh
Oceania - 1 team:
Qualification 14. - 18. May in Wellington (New Zeland) between Australia, Cook Islands, New Zeland i Wanatu.
So far 14 teams qualified for the 2003 WWHC : Croatia, Russia, Denmark, Norway, France, Kazahstana, Korea, China, Angola, Ivory coast, Tunisia, Brazil, Uruguay i Argentina.
The draw will be on 22.06.2003. in Croatian Television (HTV) studio.
