Publisher's Description
Twister is a free program to find and download MP3 and other music files on the Internet. Unlike Napster, KaZaA, Morpheus, BearShare, and Limewire, Twister doesn't use a peer-2-peer network such as Gnutella. Instead, Twister uses the top search engines available on the Internet today. Just enter the name of an artist or song, click the search button. Within seconds, the MP3 files will appear and the verification will start. All files marked with a green dot can be easily downloaded with the integrated download manager. In the playlist, you can play, rename, and delete your music files. Twister is compatible with the major music players including Media Player, WinAmp, and Sonique. Version 2.0.8 also features an integrated song library in which you can browse artists and songs.

Editor's note: This download includes additional applications bundled with the software's installer file. Third-party applications bundled with this download may record your surfing habits, deliver advertising, collect private information, or modify your system settings. Pay close attention to the end user license agreement and installation options. For more information, read's guide to adware. Review
Rather than join the growing ranks of file-sharing programs, Twister uses Internet search engines to scour the Web for music files available for download. Although the lack of a P2P network means less available music, we found the set-up hassle-free and downloads fast and reliable.

The simple interface includes pages for searches, downloads, browsing, and your playlist. Simultaneous searches are not possible, but a drop-down menu allows for easy access to search terms youÂ’ve used in the same session. An included file library lets users browse popular artists, a nice touch mitigated by the fact that all the library files are in the restrictive Real Media file format.

Also unfortunate is the required third-party software--SaveNow, WeatherCast, and iTopText Lookup. These titles add targeted pop-up windows and other tracking mechanisms that can disrupt browsing. The adware in particular makes Twister a questionable alternative to a P2P network, though it does boast superior legality and security over file-sharing programs.
