Black Isle Studios announced that sound effects designer, David Farmer will work on the company's upcoming AD&D Roleplaying game, Planescape: Torment. Farmer will be credited with the sound design for Planescape: Torment, which is being developed in house at Black Isle using the Baldur's Gate engine. Planescape: Torment is the first computer role-playing game to be set in the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Planescape campaign setting.

Farmer has worked on such hit movies as Armageddon and Con Air. Farmer has worked for over eight years on sound effects, and is no stranger to computer game sound effects design, having lent his talents to past Black Isle titles such as Baldur's Gate and Fallout 2. In addition, Farmer has worked on several Interplay titles including M.A.X., Die By The Sword and the upcoming Descent 3.

``The biggest challenge (in doing computer game sound effects) is to bring out a sound that no one has heard before, and to do it a thousand times or more in a single game,'' Farmer said. ``Gamers expect a certain level of newness in the experience, and the sounds are a big part of that. You can make hundreds of different sounds for a single flash of light and the same visual effect, and use a different sound for it, and you've got a whole different event.''

Farmer will be doing magic spells and creature sound effects, as well as some of the creature voices. Look for David Farmer's work on Planescape: Torment at software retailers nationwide this summer.
