The Fourth Annual Applelinks Moofie Award
Winners for the 2002 Gaming Year

This whole Macintosh gaming thing has gotten out of hand. When we first started reviewing games here at Applelinks, we were lucky to get one new title per month. Quite often, we had to resort to "retro" reviews just to get something published. Now, with a staff of three full-time reviewers and a few freelances, we're still always about two months behind.

The same goes for the Moofie. Each year, it gets harder to select the nominees. Whereas last year we had a fairly diverse list of games, this year belonged mainly to Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, Max Payne and The Operative: No One Lives Forever. It also saw the first year that a shareware game (Escape Velocity Nova) broke solidly into the categories normally reserved for the retail games, and we also saw an extremely late Macintosh port (Fallout 2) prove that games don't need modern technology to be captivating.

It'll come as no shock that Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos nearly swept this year. Nominated in nine of the twelve categories, it won in seven. Following this was Max Payne with five nominations and two wins, followed closely by The Operative: No One Lives Forever, nominated seven times and winning once (did anyone doubt that the indomitable Cate Archer would take Best Actress?).

And so, it's with great pleasure that we present the winners of the Fourth Annual Applelinks Moofie Awards. Winners are indicated in red, and all other nominees are listed in alphabetical order.

Thanks again for your interest in the Applelinks Moofie Awards, and be sure to join us again next year. A very special thanks once more to the gang at MacGamer for their assistance in putting this together, and to our sponsors, MacPlay and the Think Different Store. If you weren't one of the four who won games from these companies, make sure you visit them online to pick some up yourselves. After all, you've got another year until you have the chance to win again.
