BS Player 0.86 Build 496
BS Player is somewhat similar to the old 6.x M$ media player or 4.x QuickTime player. The controls are in one window, and the video in another. That's where the interface similarities end. There are controls no the video window, and no menus on the control window. There are, however, context menus for each window, a robust configuration dialog, and a stand alone playlist. Only the control window is skinnable, but can have two skins: one in the normal mode, and one for full screen. The video window isn't skinned, but the boarder can be completely removed to just show purely the footage. This app has been out for quite some time, so there is a pretty good variety of skins out there for it.
BS Player can play most of the common video files for windows. All you need are the right codex for windows and BS Player can be used for them. Some common examples would be Mpeg, Avi, Divx, Wmf, Asf, etc. It also can play two music file types: MP3 and ogg.
This version has a lot improvements made to subtitles, mp3 playing, and the video engine. Most are small, dragable subtitles, Icecast and Shoutcast Mp3 streams, and incomplete AVI playing are nice things to have. Three or four of the ten total changes where for subtitles, and it seems there may be a few more minor bugs in it. Still, the app is under active development, and if you find a problem the best thing to do is report it.
Changes in the last two versions:
Version 0.86.496
* Subtitles can now be dragged to player like movie files
* Improved mp3 playback
* Added option to listen icecast/shoutcast (MP3 only) streams
* It's now possible to play incomplete AVI files
* Some subtitle fixes
* 'Fixed' volume setting
* Some other bugs fixed
Version 0.86.494
* DivX networks changed interface again - fixed, new system, it won't crash anymore if it's changed again
* Problems with subtitles in ogg files fixed
* Still some problems with <b>,<i>,<u> tags in SRT subtitles

WinT's Windows Modification Site Update
WinT's Windows Modification Site is a place for even novices to find details and tutorials on how to hack or modify the interface of windows. A lot has happened for this site since it premiered a few months ago. The hand full of hacks are now up to over 40 and growing, a new manifesto outlining the sites purpose has been written, and much requested forum has been created so users can share questions, comments, and ideas. Read on for details.
As the site grew, there became a need for clearer description of what the site was about. The manifesto grew from this need, and well states the site's purpose. In summary, the difference between this site and other windows customization sites is simple: it's nearly all done with hacking/modifying exe, dll, and other system files. It doesn't add any apps running in the background, or use skins to change the look of things. Most of the time all you need is the simple, freeware program called Resource Hacker. The manifesto goes into much more detail, and includes information the basics on how these methods work, what can be done, and inherent limitations.
Since the site began many users have requested a forum to discuss the content and themes of the site. It's an excellent place to ask questions on these kinds of modifications in general. Whether the question is on the wide variety of modification tutorials that the site has to offer, or even on ones that you are experimenting with yourself, there are already several people there to help you. There also are sections for general use, discussion of requests and new mods, sharing mods you've created, and showing off screen shots of how you've used these tricks to transform your desktop.
When the things first got started there were only about a half dozen hacks on the site. The list has grown to over 40, so there are many more parts of the system a person has access to. Each tutorial is tested before it's posted, and written in a pretty straightforward fashion. You can also comment on each tutorial to share your thoughts or ask questions (if you need more help, the forum may be a better place to go). There is a link to the complete list below, and screen shot of many of the mods in action. Here are a few highlights:

xCap Caption Changer Beta 1
xCap is simple app to center or remove the text in the caption bar of your windows.
Centering text is something that those using window skinners have long enjoyed. It's also a change from the ordinary constantly left justified captions we all know. It you like things to be a touch little different, or just prefer a centered caption, but don't want to use the resources of a full-blown windows skinner, then this app is worth a try. Currently it can: center active or inactive window caption, blank active window caption, or to leave either caption alone. Below is a link a before and after screen shot to illustrate xCap in action.
There is also a centering slider so you can fine-tune any font to the center of your screen. It currently centers by physically adding spaces to captions. The method may change in the future, but it works well for now.
Please not that this is a beta. There are a few known issues to fix, and several features to add. One such feature is to adjust a window by class. This was in earlier unreleased beta, but should be reintegrated soon. The readme has further details for those interested. Suggestions, ideas, requests, and bug reports are welcome.
Note: Special thanks goes to spyder for whipping up a page for this app.
