EOHR’s Women’s Legal Aid Project (WLAP), is an integral part of our work.  Our goal is to eventually achieve gender equality and normalize relations between men and women such that discrimination is not rampant in the Egyptian community.  In that vein, EOHR urges government authorities to revise all Egyptian laws which are in non-conformity with our goals and international conventions and treaties related to women’s rights, most notably the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.  Cases of gender discrimination we handle include the following:

v     Family disputes ( such as divorce, housing, alimony, custody of children, etc);

v     Demanding Egyptian nationality for children of Egyptian women married to non-Egyptian men;

v     The Unified Work Law and lack of equality between genders in terms of job opportunity and pay.
