Novell and BEA Systems, Inc. Complete Transition of TUXEDO to BEA
Veteran TUXEDO Development and Marketing Teams Officially Join BEA
ORLANDO, FL, February 28, 1996 -- BEA Systems, Inc., provider of enterprise middleware solutions, today announced completion of the transition of Novell's TUXEDO-System to BEA, in accordance with the strategic partnership announced in January. TUXEDO is the market-leading open transaction management software used to develop and deploy multi-tier, client/server applications. BEA made this announcement today at the worldwide TUXEDO Users Conference it is sponsoring in Orlando, Florida, this week.
Under the terms of the strategic partnership, BEA is the exclusive developer and distributor of the TUXEDO System on UNIX, NT, and all non-NetWare platforms, and Novell will develop TUXEDO-based applications for NetWare. In addition, most Novell TUXEDO employees, including development and marketing personnel, have joined BEA, and BEA has assumed all contracts with TUXEDO partners, distributors, and customers. BEA has exclusive rights to the TUXEDO trademark.
The majority of the TUXEDO development team has officially transitioned to BEA. This group includes programmers who were members of the product's original AT&T development team who have worked with TUXEDO for more than a decade. A small core of TUXEDO developers will remain with Novell to continue development of TUXEDO capabilities for the NetWare environment.
In addition to the experienced development staff, BEA has acquired the TUXEDO management, marketing, and field marketing organizations. Joe Menard, vice president in charge of the TUXEDO Business Unit at Novell, will take a prominent position at BEA as vice president of product planning and strategy. These development and marketing groups will ensure that TUXEDO's leadership position is maintained, and that TUXEDO users clearly understand the future direction of the product.
BEA is the only company exclusively focused on enabling distributed mission-critical applications, based on enhanced transaction management technology and services. In mid-1995, BEA acquired Information Management Company (IMC) and Independence Technologies, Inc. (ITI), the two leading suppliers of enterprise-level TUXEDO systems, providers of professional services, and developers of management and connectivity software to support on-line transaction processing (OLTP) environments.
With the acquisitions of these two companies and the Novell strategic partnership, BEA has the resources and vision to provide TUXEDO customers and partners with the technology advances, professional services, and support they need to make their mission-critical distributed systems successful. BEA's long-term market vision and development plan will take customers well into the next generation of client/server technologies, including object-oriented and message-oriented middleware, and enabling expanded solutions in areas such as electronic commerce.
