The line is operated exclusively by 1995
tube stock, and although none of the line speeds on the Northern
line exceed 45mph, the unit has a design speed of 62mph.
The train is governed to 55mph on this route.
Driving
Station stops.
Stations will have a stop board which looks
like two arrows on to the side of the track. You should try to
stop between them. In real life the doors wouldn't release if
the driver didn't stop in exactly the right place because it would
mean part of the train was in a tunnel!
The blue signs (numbered 1-6) after stops are purely to tell you
how many carriages have entered the tunnel. Useful in emergencies
for evacuation purposes.
Signals.
The Northern line signals are operated
by "line of sight", ie. the only main aspects that are
displayed are red and green. You'll have to look out for the signal
in the distance. If its red you'll have time to stop (unless you're
speeding!)
Speeds.
There are no advanced warnings of speed
restrictions on our BVE route just the signs when the restriction
applies. Drivers are expected to learn the road!
To assist you when taking the controls for the first time here
is a list of the line speeds throughout the route (speeds are
in mph):
15 Kennington Loop
30 Between Kennington and Camden Town
25 Mornington Crescent crossover
15 Edgware branch divergence beyond Mornington Crescent
20 Camden Town junction with Bank branch
35 Between Camden Town and Archway
40 Between Archway and East Finchley
45 Between East Finchley and High Barnet
15 Mill Hill East divergence prior to Finchley Central
25 Over curve north of Finchley Central
15 Entering platform roads at High Barnet
