SCCA PRO RACING ANNOUNCES SPORTS RACING PRO SERIES
TOPEKA, Kan. (March 13, 2003) – SCCA Pro Racing announced today the formation of the SCCA Sports Racing Pro Series.
The new series will merge the field of the American City Racing League (ACRL) and also include the new SCCA Sports Car from SCCA Enterprises, the new Mazda Sports Racer and cars eligible in the SCCA Club Racing D Sports Racing class.
The SCCA Sports Racing Pro Series will be included in the SCCA Pro Racing North American Championships, which feature the Mazdaspeed Miata Cup Presented by Hankook Tires, Pro Spec Racer, Formula SCCA and, at select events, the Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship.
“The series offers drivers in a variety of classes a chance to compete for one championship,” said Mitch Wright, SCCA Pro Racing Vice President and General Manager. “We are in the process of finalizing a purse structure that rewards not only the top overall finishers but also the best in each of several classes.”
“We think this is a new, exciting development for our competitors and feel that SCCA Pro Racing has organized a great program for their new North American Championships,” said Paul Haas, Past ACRL President. “The new Sports Racing Pro Series will showcase some of the most competitive sleek performance cars driven by highly skilled professional drivers and will provide some very stimulating racing for the spectators.”
As with the other series in the SCCA North American Championships, the Sports Racing Pro Series will crown Atlantic and Pacific Champions as well as a North American Champion, which will be decided at a combined event at Heartland Park Topeka, October 18-19.
