Nicolas Benjamin Delapierre was a well-known French portrait painter of the second half of the 19th century and died in Paris after 1793. He was active in Moscow (1767) and St. Petersburg (1768-1793?) where he was teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1770 he became the title agree at the Academy for a portrait of Catherine the Second and the title Academician for a portrait of the academy Professor N.F. Gillet (portrait now in the Russian Museum). During the same year he became royal painter. Among his portraits to mention are also the portrait of Count Sheremetiev (now in Museum "Kuskovo" in Moscow) and the portrait of Grand Prince Pavel Petrovich. *Provenance: Sir J. Condition: In good condition, under ultra violet: insignificant minor touch-ups on the breast, on clothing and in the background.
