(Sharat Kumar, Kiran, Sharmilee)
With 'Arasu' not disappointing at the box-office and 'Paarai' too earning him a good name, Sharat Kumar has bagged quite a few films. One of them is 'Diwan', where he plays a dual role of an old man and his grandson. Heading the female cast are Kiran and Sharmilee. Manorama, Anandraj, Shriman, Ponnambalam, Vijayan, Ajay Ratnam, Madan Bob and Dalapathi Dinesh form the supporting cast. Roped in for the comedy is Vadivelu, while actor Uday Prakash who's played the villain and also character roles in many films like 'Chinna Thambi' and was much in the news recently (for the pathetic financial condition he was in), has a crucial role. Jaiprakash Reddy from Telugu films plays a villain here.
'Diwan' is produced by Thenappan for his banner Srirajalakshmi Films, and scripted and directed by Suryaprakash. Shooting for the film commenced at Chennai and neighbouring areas. For 'Maayi', Sharat had jumped from a height of about 70 feet for a stunt scene. In this film, the actor reportedly has
done yet another risky scene without the help of a double. He had to climb a high-rise building using a rope hanging from the roof. A stunt scene was shot on 'grandpa' Sharat Kumar and about 20 stuntmen. The scene had Sharat Kumar the grandfather, visiting a business tycoon's bungalow with a marriage proposal for his grandson, and being attacked by the rich man's goons. Stunt choreographer Kanal Kannan choreographed the action-scenes.
A romantic scene and a song was picturised at the Besant Nagar Beach in Chennai, where Sharat and Kiran took part. A few songs were also shot at exotic locations in New Zealand. The music is set by S A Rajkumar and dance choreography is by Dinesh, Cool Jayant and Lalitamani. The film has cinematography by Vijay Chakravarthy, sets designed by
G K, and editing by Thanikachalam.
