Dr. Douglas Prasher received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Ohio State University, Columbus, in 1979. From 1979-1983, Dr. Prasher was a Postdoctoral Associate for the Department of Genetics at the University of Georgia, Athens. He then became an Assistant Biochemist, for the Biochemistry Department, University of Georgia, in 1983. In 1987 he became an Assistant Scientist for the Biology Department of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, Massachusetts where he studied bioluminescence. He began his federal employment in 1992 at the Otis Plant Protection Center as the Project Leader of a molecular diagnostics group. He relocated to CPHST’s Plant Germplasm Quarantine & Biotechnology Laboratory at Beltsville in 2001, and is currently involved in biotechnology discovery for PPQ.
