The Myth:

Pot/Marijuana grown in D2O (deuterated water) is better than Pot/Marijuana grown in H2O (normal water)

Background

A myth of Renfrew County in the Ottawa Valley (Ontario, Canada), is that Pot grown in D2O (deuterated water) makes better quality Marijuana than Pot grown in H2O (normal water)

Further to this claim -

That for Marijuana grown in D2O, "the smoke is heavier"

Breaking the Myth

Tricky. Though fortunately, the Ottawa Valley is also home to AECL (Atomic Energy of Canada Limited) in Chalk River. Which according to the 2001/2002 AECL annual report, has a major asset of over 563 million Canadian dollars in heavy water inventory,

However, it would seem that the primary mandate of AECL is i) to sell nuclear reactors and ii) stuff D2O down old mine-shafts, not perform relevant research for the public good. Thus this myth is still left open to being confirmed or denied by the scientific method.

On the claim That for Marijuana grown in D2O, "the smoke is heavier"

It has been argued that this must be bollocks, as the smoke is carbon/soot particulate matter and would thus not contain deuterium.

Though it has also be counter-argued that the smoke is a complex mixture of carbon and hydrogenated compounds. Thus the above is only slightly bollocks and could still be valid.
