WAVY GRAVY REMIX WINNER ANNOUNCED
Troy Stoner of Tallahassee, FL is the winner of the Sasha Remix Contest.
His drum n' bass mix of "Wavy Gravy" was selected, by Sasha, as the best of over 500 submissions the contest generated.
Troy began his career as a musician in sixth grade when he decided to join the band and play trumpet. After high school he became interested in electronic music and decided to invest some money in a Yamaha Rm1x to "make some beats." After getting some new gear and deciding to seriously pursue music Troy moved from his hometown to Orlando to attend Full Sail for a recording arts degree.
Troy began his electronic music career producing Florida/Nu Skool breaks with Chris Thomas. Recently he has expanded his repertoire, moving on to other genres including his own brand of down tempo jungle.
Stoner credits Sasha & Digweed and Crystal Method as early influences responsible for introducing him to the electronic music scene. BT, Hybrid, Kevin Beber, and Everything but the Girl, are also major influences on Troy’s style.
“I wanted to make it different,” says Stoner, of his award wining remix. “I liked the samples but didn't want to use the exact patterns. I originally tried throwing a dirty nu skool beat and bass line on it but it just didn't have the right feel. The main synth line in the song seemed to drag. So instead I threw it on a jungle beat I had made and it fit perfect. I really like jungle but don't care for the conventional one line that rides the entire song. I decided to give it a breakbeat format with lots of jungle elements.”
