80th Regiment Arrived Sydney 1st
October 1834
. This comprised of only the first detachment. The
remainder of the detachments sailed over the next 6
yaers, with the last Sailing from
Sheerness 10th July 1840 Arrived Sydney 18th November
1840 .
Detachments were deployed to Norfolk Island and some to
New Zealand. Eventually reuniting in Sydney in 1844, the
Regiment sailed for India on the 12th of August 1844.

- The Regiment came in to being in 1758 . During
this year it was given the name the 80th (Light Armed)
Regiment of Foot. The
following is a history of the Regiments name changes.
- During the year 1764 the Regiment was disbanded ,
but reformed in 1778 as the 80th (Royal Edinburgh
Volunteers),again disbanded in 1790. Once again the
Regiment was recalled to duty in 1793, when it was also
renamed the 80th (Staffordshire Volunteers) Regiment of
Foot,a name it retained until 1881.
