[Mean Streets] In Casablanca I am master of my fate!

Warner Bros.’ 1942 classic noir romance, Casablanca, told the story of a hardened American expatriate, who runs a bar and casino in French-occupied Morocco during World War II and is inspired to support the Resistance movement and give up his past love. Author Jerry Jones (editor, Book of Dark Wisdom) brings this classic noir city to life for use with Deep7’s role-playing game of classic film noir, Mean Streets.
Inside the pages of this upcoming PDF city sourcebook players and gamemasters will be treated to a city like no other, a place filled with shadowy figures and mysteries to unravel. You’ll be treated to important locations and personalities within the city, such as businesses, nightclubs, hotels and various places of gaming interest. For those looking to incorporate a cloak-and-dagger motif into a Mean Streets campaign, the supplement also will include several key underground figures for Spanish and French revolutionaries, as well as German spies, along with layouts of hideouts and plans for a cargo ship that can be used as a generic merchant vessel.
For those with a desire to push the game line’s canonical timeline forward into the 1950s, the Casablanca city book also will feature post-WWII background information, including details about the new Moroccan underground, and key Arab and Moroccan personalities for game play. And as a backdrop for gamemasters and players, the book will include an adventure that brings players into the WWII-era city of Casablanca and introduces some of its intrigues.
The Casablanca city sourcebook is slated for a Jan/Feb 2004 release and will tentatively retail for $4.95, available for purchase from Deep7’s secure Web site. To learn more about this, future and current Mean Streets books, please visit www.deep7.com or join the Mean Streets mailing list at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mean_streets_rpg.

West End Games has new owner

Humanoids is pleased to announce that the long rumored sale of the West End Games imprint is complete. The sale means that new life can be breathed into a company that has been, for so long, existing at a minimal level. The transaction transfers West End Games trademarks and intellectual properties from Humanoids Inc. to Eric J. Gibson and the still forming Purgatory Publishing Inc.
West End Games, formed in 1974 and best known for publishing highly cinematic role playing games like Star Wars D6, Paranoia, DC Universe, and Torg, has produced over 350 roleplaying game and related products to date.
With the purchase of West End Games, Purgatory Publishing adds game production to its business strategy, a strategy that already includes the publication of fiction novels.
“No time will be wasted in putting new West End Games products on the shelf,” says Mr. Gibson. “Plans include the printing of the extremely popular D6 System, the continued development of Torg 2.0, and the acquisition on new licenses. The future looks bright.”
For more information about West End Games and its lines, visit www.westendgames.com. Questions concerning this transaction may be directed to Mr. Gibson at hellsreach@lycos.com.

Politically Incorrect Games Introduces Rune Stryders

Politically Incorrect Games (PIG) announces a new direction in fantasy roleplaying with the upcoming release of Rune Stryders. The game is set in a world on the brink of all-out-war. Civil war within the Confederated Nations threatens the land and the outcast nations bide their time to take revenge. From the Steel-clad behemoths to the giant insects and scavenged heaps augmented with bones and skulls, a Rune Stryder's form can vary. Each has one thing in common, however - the fact that they are towering war machines brought to life through runic magic and guided by skilled pilots.
"This is a real departure in many ways," says co-author Michael "aeon" Fiegel, founder of aethereal FORGE and creator of the award-winning Ninja Burger. "In crafting the Rune Stryders concept and setting, my main goal was to be different. It would have been easy to just slap some elves and dwarves inside steam-powered robots, but I was determined to really focus on the truly fantastic, to get back to the core of what Fantasy is all about. And that meant getting away from many of the cliches. I think I accomplished that, and I'm happy with the end product."

After looking over the contest entries, Z-Man Games and Spectrum Games have decided upon a winning entry! All the entries were very good, which made the process all the more difficult. In the end, only one contestant could claim victory and that contestant is...
Kirt Dankmyer!
Kirt's villain, H-Bomb, narrowly edged out Robert Bretz's Mistress Meteor for the grand prize! H-Bomb will be published in the Omlevex book, complete with a fantastic rendering by one of our artists! Furthermore, Kirt will get a complementary copy of the book upon its release in January 2004.
We'd like to thank everyone for entering and congratulate Kirt for winning what turned out to be a neck and neck contest!
