Ranking System:

FYI: each ranking next to the band is in accordance to whatever stage they have their ranking by. There are repeats in the list (i.e- SOiL, Ill Nino) who appear both on the main and second stages..their rankings differ on each stage), or for instance Disturbed has potential in two co-headlining spots, so their ranking is equal for both..it gets easier to understand as you scroll down ;)

Well this year's Ozzfest has been touted by many a band member, manager, and fan alike to be the last of its kind with Ozzy at the helm. This years Ozzfest 2003 will have to go out with a bang, so expect some top notch bands on the bill. Scroll down, and have a read of what we consider the #1 predictions on the net, and see who you think fits the spot!

..but before you read on..here's who won't be at your local Ozzfest this year:

Metallica - European Festivals, we'll see them on Summer Sanitarium 2003
Iron Maiden - European commitments, US tour planned for Fall
AC/DC - The only group probably as big if not bigger than Sabbath/Ozzy, why would they settle for a co-headlining spot if they can sport their own headlining world tour?
Machinehead - Robb Flynn has said himself - we're done 'till 2004
Linkin Park - Summer Sanitarium 2003
Mudvayne - Summer Sanitarium 2003
Deftones - Summer Sanitarium 2003
Audioslave - Will be on this years Lollapalooza Tour

The Predictions

Main Stage Headliner:

This year it will be a tossup to see who is headlining, whether it be Ozzy solo, or Black Sabbath, who knows. As we all know, Ozzy is coming out with a brand new album in 2003, so it would be a great marketing ploy to promote it that way, yet think of a final last blow out Ozzy Osbourne tour in 2003/2004, and put Sabbath up on the Fest. It is 50/50 either way.

[ ** ] Black Sabbath (Sabbath tours the 'fest every other year (1997, 1999, 2001, ..2003))

[ ** ] Ozzy Osbourne (New album in 2003)

Main Stage Co-Headliners:

Co-Headliner #1

Here is where you bring out the big guns..a lot of talk for these two coveted spots, after the likes of KoRn, Tool, Guns 'N Roses, and Slayer all being pushed aside in 2002 before SOAD were finally put on the bill, it is a wide open spot for who could play.

[ * ] Motley Crue (OUT - Nikki Sixx says nothing till 2004)

[ * ] PanterA (Always a likelihood of them being on the bill, possible new album being recorded in 2003, Phil/Rex side project DOWN headlined 2002 second stage, PANTERA did 1997 and 2000, but without their new album there is really no point, and it also depends on Phil's other side-projects and commitments, but in reality it won't happen)

[ * ] Guns N Roses (Cancelled 2002 US Tour, Chinese Democracy due out 200x, it's Axl Rose..you put the pieces together)

[ * ] Tool (depending on what Maynard is doing..its touch and go..they did Ozzfest `98..looking doubtful)

[ *** ] Marylin Manson (new album due out 2003, did the tour in 1997, 2001 - will do a US tour in 2 months, album prolly out March/April time, has some festivals in Europe under Metallica in early June, will just hope onto ozzfest then carry on to Japan/Europe later in the year, finish up all tour support in Jan/Feb of 2004 - it all depends on his tour scheduling!!)

[ ** ] Motorhead (toured in `98, would make for that loud and proud British sound that could appear on Ozzfest)

[ ** ] KoRn (you have to put them in here, even though Sharon abhors them..hehe)

[ *** ] Godsmack (new album out 2003, tour with SEVENDUST in Spring, did the tour in 1999 and 2000, looks like a good guess along with AUDIOSLAVE, yet maybe a headlining tour of their own could suit them better)

[ * ] Slayer (got asked to do it last year in the US, did European festivals instead, did Ozzfest UK, did the jaunt in 1996, and 1999 - however, they have signed on for Germany's With Full Force and Wacken Open Air festivals during July which rules 'em out)

[ * ] Halford (pretty doubtful due to drab album sales of Crucible (thanks to their management), and of course Rob aims to tour and retire in 2003, but its always a nice thought!)

[ ** ] Slipknot (its all dependant on their album, and Corey especially, it depends what route he aims to take - A Slipknot club/arena tour later in the Fall, and let the masses see Stone Sour on the 2nd Stage, or does he bring Slipknot on a summer long tour then continue to tour afterwards)

[ * ] Rob Zombie (we would love him to come back for another year, but the odds of that are diminishing due to his involvement last year)

[ **** ] Disturbed Are very possible now that Mudvayne and Audioslave are officially not on.

Co-Headliner #2

[ *** ] Anthrax (have stated their intentions and want to do Ozzfest! Charlie Benante showed up for his guest spot in 'Bounce' in 2002, and the band just wants to do the tour)

[ ** ] New Found Power (from what smnnews.com has been told, DEPENDING ON THEIR LABEL (we have been tipped on who they might sign to), it will depend on if they will end up on Ozzfest or not.)

[ - ] Audioslave (Originally confirmed for 2002, but cancelled due to Chris Cornell leaving the band, confirmed to tour in Spring 2003, could make an easy jump onto the 'Fest)

[ - ] Deftones Officially on the Metallica Tour

[ ** ] Foo Fighters (these guys have been receiving a lot of exposure via MTV and on the radio with their latest release, it could be one of the 'MTV' bands that ends up on this years 'Fest, i.e- a repeat of P.O.D, if a band refuses to play, or somehow doesn't accept their spot - these guys will be immediate fillers in - then again Zakk hates Dave Grohl so..hehe)

[ - ] Mudvayne Officially on the Metallica Tour

[ **** ] Disturbed Are very possible now that Mudvayne and Audioslave are officially not on.

[ - ] Linkin Park Officially on the Metallica Tour.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Main Stage:

The Main Stage, here is where you get a couple juicy bands, then you get your annual flop (see Crazytown, and Adema). This often makes or breaks the tour if the second stage isn't as good. Luckily in 2002 the strong second stage made up for the additions of P.O.D and Adema on the bill. Let's hope for a repeat of additions of bands with the prowess of Rob Zombie and Drowning Pool, i.e- metalhead and crowd pleasers)

[ - ] Mudvayne Officially on the Metallica Tour. )

[ *** ] Sevendust (did Ozzfest 1998, were an option to appear on 2002's bill in a poll on ozzfest.com, Spring tour with Godsmack, and working on new material - tentatively might resurface)

[ ** ] Static-X (did 1999 (second stage) and the main stage in 2000, working on new material, were an option to appear on 2002's bill in a poll on ozzfest.com)

[ ** ] Cradle Of Filth (always talked about for Ozzfest, and have done Ozzfest UK, if funding permits, could definitely appear on the US bill)

[ - ] Henry Rollins Band (Rollins is taking his band out "on the road during the summer" - but has stated he won't be at Ozzfest)

[ - ] Deftones Officially on the Metallica Tour.

[ ** ] Soulfly (Showed up in 1998 and headlined second stage in 2000, new album out in 2002, came of a very successful In Flames/Slayer/downthesun tour)

[ ** ] A Perfect Circle (new album due out 2003, Maynard has toured with Tool on Ozzfest 1998, hey its a possibility..)

[ * ] Powerman 5000 (toured with `96 and `97 Ozzfests, new album due out 2003)

[ ** ] Voivoid (Newsteds new outfit, would be a very different addition to the Fest, but if you think about it, with Newsteds thoughts of wanting to become bigger/badder/better than his old Metallica, then Ozzfest would be the perfect place to start, see them possibly on a early main stage slot)

[ **** ] Black Label Society (We have seen them in 2001 and 2002 as main stage openers, new album out 2003, its up in the air about pulling double-duty again, but definitely see them on the main stage this year, its always a pleasure, lets hope for a longer set-time though)

[ - ] Queens of the Stone Age (Did Ozzfest 2000, they didn't really like the crowd response and felt their music wasn't for that demographic, yet 'Songs for the Deaf' is selling way better than expected)

[ **** ] Chevelle (Huge response to this band all over the world, was on last years second stage, their latest release went gold and is still climbing, had a top-5 hit with "The Red", also doing Music As A Weapon 2 tour, hopefully might be this years 'MTV' band, but the thing is - they aren't shitty, highly possible addition along with MUDVAYNE)

[ ** ] Taproot (Just came off their tour with MUDVAYNE, doing Music As A Weapon 2 with DISTURBED/CHEVELLE, new album doing great, toured 2000 and 2001 Ozzfests on second stage, they might appear on the mainstage, its all dependant on how well their latest album sells/continues to sell)

[ ** ] Crazytown (ahh..who knows/cares..too much drama with this band after being added for 2000, then dropped, then being boo'd off in 2001, the band themselves even stated how hard it was to play everyday, does Sharon dare risk them again?)

[ * ] Rammstein (where have they been? With the recent release of Feur-Frei, and past tours such as Pledge of Allegiance, would be a fiery addition to the main stage - no pun intended)

[ * ] Lostprophets (another MTV possibility who actually received a warm welcome on the 2nd stage in 2002 for their live intensity, is a possibility, new album due out over the summer of 2003)

[ ** ] SOiL (huge huge 2nd stage band in 2002, guitarist Shaun Glass has stated "we'll see what happens, if we get offered and it works, we'll do it", theres a mainstage possibility, yet scroll down to the 2nd Stage portion to read more)

[ ** ] Jerry Cantrell (Would fit in on Ozzfest very well, great main stage possibility, its up to his touring options, and his new label/management whether he could appear)

[ ** ] Kelly Osbourne (it has to be said..its sickening but..well..she's the boss' daughter, and has Pure Rubbish (plus female drummer) backing her up..did that "duet" with ANDREW WK...its awful to even think of this, quite a 'Fest ruiner)

[ ** ] TRUST Company (growing, growing, and growing after their tour with KORN/DISTURBED, album sales and popularity is gaining, another big possibility, depends on their success and if it grows)

[ ** ] Nonpoint (After the release of 'Development' did a few club tours, and have been rumored for a few pre-summer tours, its a large possibility after showing up in 2001 on the second stage, new album due out late 2003)

[ * ] Ill Nino (its touch and go as to where these guys would be placed if added to the bill, but with a new album out in 2003 and their good crowd response, its a possibility they could make it up to the main stage)

[ * ] Flaw (after doing only half the 'Fest, getting mediocre crowd reponse, with a new album in 2003, its a possibility, but very doubtful of having these guys on the main stage)

[ ** ] Andrew WK (another half 'Fester in 2002, has stated his want and intention to come back for 2003, and after ending up on the main stage due to Kelly for the majority of his touring duties on the 'Fest it could be very well be another one of those MTV possibilities)

[ ** ] Saliva (with their new album and a hit single, and them being rumored (but never actually appearing) on 2001, it could be a distinct possibility that they show up this year)

[ * ] Audiovent (probably falls in the category of Flaw where they might appear, but theres not much pushing them to show up - we shall label them as another MTV band)

[ * ] Stereomud (were touted to do the main stage last year, but that fell through, and along with Kittie and AHC, they ended up doing a new album..so 2003 is a maybe)

[ * ] Coal Chamber (if they aren't assaulting each other and if Dez's side project permits, could be a worthy main stage or 2nd stage co-headlining addition)

[ ** ] Kittie (those growling girles were supposed to be on the mainstage last year, but they lost a member)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Second Stage Headliners:

This is the fun part of the tour, and my personal favorite three bands to watch and guess for on the bill..! It could be a great year if things go to plan in 2003..

[ **** ] Hatebreed (Hatebreed has already confirmed that they have been asekd to be the second stage headliner, new album due out 2003 right before ozzfest, we could see them for a third straight year, and new information about their CD release for June should skyrocket them to a high possibility)

[ ** ] Down (headlined 2nd stage last year. Phil has confirmed that SJR will be touring a little in 2003 for their new album, then might go back with DOWN to headline 2nd stage again)

[ ** ] Superjoint Ritual (another Anselmo sideproject, new album out 2003, mini Spring tour already confirmed, hey..its possible)

[**note**] Mr. Anselmo is an extremely busy man, with talks of an Iommi collaberation, a new PANTERA album, new SJR, another DOWN tour, etc. it makes you wonder if he even has time to piss. So for any Phil band its touch and go, and we are grateful for whatever we might get!

[ - ] In Flames (Nuclear Blast put Meshuggah on for 2002 (thanks Jack)..In Flames are getting HUGE..a very definite possibility after their US Spring return, if Nuclear Blast are kind, and know what the fans want they will fork out the money for this successful act, most definitely if not a headliner, a co-headliner!)

[ **** ] SOiL (despite being heavy contenders for a main stage spot, the band would prefer a 2nd stage spot, and a full run on the Fest, guitarist Shaun Glass in a recent smnnews.com interview stated "Well I do hate fucking seats so I think if we did 2nd stage with a firm slot it would be the coolest environment for us to do what we do." - so if not headliners, then co-headliners)

[ - ] Deftones Officially on the Metallica Tour.

[ *** ] Ill Nino (they seem to fit the spot of a headlining band for the 2nd stage, as they would seem more comfortable in being able to control the crowd more with their style of music)

Co-Headliners:

[ - ] Deftones (This band is a wildcard. Talks from management at Velvet Hammer have placed them on the 2nd stage in a "headlining" spot, if not here, then its going to be on the main stage)

[ - ] In Flames (again..just read above!)

[ *** ] Ill Nino (again..just read above!)

[ ** ] OTEP (played Ozzfest in 2001/2002 both times as a 2nd stage slot, and there has been talk since their Winter Armageddon Tour of them doing it for a 3rd time, their Roxy show on the aforementioned tour had some "distinguished" guests appear in relation to the Fest - growing talks make them a strong strong co-headliner hopeful)

[ * ] Arch Enemy (a man can wish can't he?! Swedish connection, have been blowing away US audiences, sorry to sound personal but I would love for the swedish one/two with In Flames, and a nice Phil to top it all off on the 2nd stage - but enough rambling, we'll see what happens with Angela and co.)

[ **** ] Shadows Fall (this is Century Medias little secret that they could unleash to the masses, these guys have done extremely extremely well for the lack of tour support they get, and have greatly impacted metal, it could happen! If not, see 'em on the regular rotation)

[ *** ] Stone Sour (new album out 2002, if time permits between Slipknot and anything else Corey is doing look for them to appear on second stage)

[ ** ] Murderdolls (same reason as Stone Sour except with Joey)

[ ** ] American Head Charge (were said to be on the main stage, along with that supposed Kittie confirmation, but could very well appear on this years 2nd Stage in a high spot, did 2001, and new album out in 2003)

[ - ] The Used (The Used will be touring nonstop next summer and have been confirmed to appear on The Warped Tour. Album sales are too high to be on second stage and they cant play only half of main.

[ * ] Coal Chamber (if they aren't assaulting each other and if Dez's side project permits, could be a worthy main stage or 2nd stage co-headlining addition)

[ * ] downthesun (sold 10,000 copies of their album, dont expect to see them anywhere)

[ * ] Slaves on Dope (new CD in 2003, toured in 2000, could make a return to the bill if they pick up touring before the Fest starts)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Second Stage:

It really is a guessing game, a fun one though..

[ - ] The Used The Used will be touring nonstop next summer and have been confirmed to appear on The Warped Tour. Album sales are too high to be on second stage and they cant play only half of main.

[ *** ] KillSwitch Engage (Getting big, very hard, very popular, done tours with Hatebreed, In FLames, Shadows Fall, keep an eye out for RR to put them on the bill, probably the regular rotation)

[ ** ] Dope (would make a great 2nd stage band in my opinion, but their recent feuding and member departures could halt such an appearance, new album out in 2003)

[ - ] Primer 55 (broken up - will not appear)

[ ** ] Union Underground (toured 2001, new album due out 2003, odds point to even)

[ ** ] Testament (coming back in 2003, would be an *awesome* addition to Ozzfest, would rip the crowd a new one)

[ * ] Exodus (more Bay Area thrash, its a possibility, they would tear the place apart)

[ ** ] Nevermore (primarily to placate Dan, but they were scheduled for Warped before CM yanked them off, and they have a good 2nd stage 'sound')

[ *** ] Cold (were supposed to play 2001 but cancelled, new album out early 2003)

[ *** ] Onesidezero (new album out 2003, supposed to tour 2002 ozzfest, if they dont get dropped by their label odds are good, well liked among other Ozzfest bands)

[ *** ] Skinlab (another CM hopeful, breaking out hugely in the west coast, toured extensively in 2002, went on tour with SJR, Dope, etc.)

[ **** ] Motograter (A SW band, and have been tapped by their management for the gig. High possibility.)

[ *** ] Skindred (Just sealed a US deal here with MCA, and did Ozzfest UK)

[ * ] Mushroomhead (toured 2002 ozzfest, new album out 2003)

[ **** ] Sworn Enemy (becoming a HIGH possibility for the 2nd stage, touring with Kittie, and OTEP, and are gaining massive popularity, would be great on the Fest)

[ *** ] OneMinuteSilence (were supposed to play ozzfest 2002, new album due out 2003)

[ * ] Diesel Machine (if they get a label, and decent management, these guys are 100%, until then..just promote and pray - Pat is doing New Found Power - scratch them off the list)

[ ** ] Stripping The Pistol (ex-Soulfly sideproject, have music featured on the Osbournes, personally picked by Sharon, we'll soon see!)

[ ** ] Boyhitscar (another "were supposed to play but cancelled" band..yet they have been MIA for a while, a possible resurgance in 2003 could be in order)

[ - ] Tenfold

[ ** ] From Zero

[ ** ] Implant (unsigned, but are a SW band, we'll be first to let you know)

[ *** ] Pacifier (along with Cinder these guys are honest hopefuls. They receive a lot of promotion from many a PR site..looks likely)

[ *** ] Cinder (debut album out january 2003, a very highly likely band, they have the right sound, and would be an excellent 2nd stage performance)

[ ** ] Dillusion (signed to jack osbournes record label, were rumored to have done the tour in 2002)

[ * ] Factory 81 (new album out 2003, odds even)

[ ** ] Darwin's Waiting Room (supposed to tour 2002 ozzfest, new album out 2003)

[ ** ] CKY (GnR tour, touring in February, it wouldn't be so bad, depends on their previous engagements, they could end up on Warped)

[ ** ] 40 Below Summer (new album out 2003, did the Jager deal, etc their odds seem even)

[ *** ] Brand New Sin (they have the Zakk Wylde backing, and tour with Kittie will get them further recognition, definitely a band that the Ozzfest crowd would love, if SOiL gets on the bill, expect pusing from both the BLS camp and them to usher Brand New Sin onto the Fest)

[ ** ] Chimaira (new album out 2003)

[ ** ] Sparta (are a SW band, who knows, if not Warped, maybe Ozzfest)

[ **** ] Memento (again, a band with the right sound, growing big in 2003, upcoming release)

[ *** ] Endo (new album in 2003, quite possible)

[ *** ] Noise Therapy (recently finished up a tour with Flaw, Otep, and Ill Nino, has been on the short circuit for band promotion, and is an up and comer of 2002)

[ *Band* ] Systematic (toured ozzfest 2001, new album out 2003, must be itching to tour by now, Tim of the band has confirmed their being added to the bill, yet it all depends on the release of their upcoming CD!)

[ ** ] Year of the Rabbit (a relatively unknown and new band, but is getting praised reviews all over the place, could sneak in on that spot like Pulse Ultra and No One have in the past years)

[ - ] Blindside (POD connection, er, touring with Memento/Papa Roach could help them)

[ * ] Mindless Self Indulgence (sold out US tour..could happen)

[ * ] Dog Fashion Disco (harder new stuff, successful tour with MSI)

[ ** ] Nothingface (new CD in 2003)

[ - ] Ministry

[ ** ] Brides Of Destruction (Nikki Sixx side project, could start to blossom..)

[ * ] Lamb of God (heavy, hard, but lack of funds might not leave them so hopeful)

[ *** ] Ra (club tour with Seether, recent release could land them a spot plus the MTV lovings)

[ - ] Crossbreed

[ ** ] The Blank Theory

[ - ] Snapcase

[ ** ] Hotwire (toured with Kittie/Flaw in 2002, and Crazytown in early 2003, its possible)

[ ** ] Lollipop Lust Kill

[ - ] Dragpipe

[ - ] UnLoco

[ * ] Asensino (side project with power! maybe *too* much for Ozzfest?)

[ - ] From Autumn To Ashes (being an Indie band it might be hard to land a spot on such an expensive tour)

[ - ] Medication

[ - ] Demon Hunter

[ ** ] Order By Chaos (produced by SOiL frontman Shaun Glass, will definately get signed in 2003, if SOiL performs this band should land a spot)

[ ** ] Poison The Well (after getting our hopes up so high, PTW are on this summers Warped Tour, expect them to be a half fest band at best, or maybe not at all)

[ ** ] Breaking Benjamin (If their polyamorus friend permits, they could show up on this 2nd stage)

[ *** ] Glassjaw (could return, new CD..have a large fanbase)

[ * ] Oleander (new CD in 2003..but their poppish sound might not land them on Ozzfest)

[ ** ] Finch (Might appear, have potential if not doing Warped, could be a half-fest band)

[ *** ] Depswa (Mudvayne/Taproot tour, see what 2003 has to offer, could be a breakthrough band of 2003)

[ * ] Lacuna Coil (its possible, but label funding keeps them restricted)

[ * ] Soilwork (again doubtful due to funding)

[ * ] Sentenced (doubtful due to funding, and the 1st time they had appeared in the US was just for 2 weeks..)
