Cockpit of Avenger

Lambert's office -  the cockpit of his Avenger

One day later, hundreds of miles north, off Cape Engano, Lambert put another torpedo into the ZUIKAKU, helping to sink the pride of the Japanese carrier fleet.  It was the last survivor of the six carriers that attacked Pearl Harbor.  In two days, Lambert and a host of other Naval fliers, several of whom were trained by him, broke the back of the Japanese Imperial Navy.

October 24 & 25, 1944 were the biggest days of the war for Lambert.  In three days 20,000 Japanese sailors would die in the Battle of Leyte Gulf - the greatest naval battle of all time.

First, Lambert tangled with Admiral Inoguchi, skipper of the Super-Battleship MUSASHI.

Lambert won and Inoguchi lost, when the largest ship in the world rolled over and sank nose first into the Sibuyan Sea.
