The Linode Network Infrastructure We like to share, in general. But not when it comes to bandwidth. That's why we built a completely switched network using only the highest quality equipment and network providers. Each Linode connects to our world-class network, for some serious bandwidth.
Our internal network uses 100% Cisco networking equipment. Every machine on our internal network has a switched 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet
connection to our Cisco switching equipment.
We've recently acquired rack space in Hurricane Electric's Freemont datacenter. All new servers (host9 and above) will be located here. Take a tour of the Fremont Facility HE owns and operates a highly ranked national backbone with connections ranging from OC-48 to gigabit ethernet rings connecting to several major exchange points, including
Tier II Network Provider - ThePlanet Internet Services - Dallas, TX Linode.com's initial set of host machines are located at ThePlanet's Dallas, Texas data-center facility. From there, our switches connect to ThePlanet's core network via multiple 100Mbps Fast Ethernet links, again for load balancing and redundancy. Through ThePlanet, we have the following Carrier Backbone connectivity:
With ThePlanet's redundancy and the redundancy built into our internal network, ThePlanet has provided Linode.com with a 100% Network-uptime Service Level Agreement (SLA).
Top of page Additional Equipment at XO Communications - Secaucus, NJ We have additional equipment located with XO Communications in their Secaucus, NJ datacenter. XO operates their own international backbone for voice and data. Top of pageServer hardware Host machines in our small but growing Linux cluster are based off of the following configurations:
Remote Management Each and every piece of networking equipment, whether it be a switch, a server, or some other device, is connected to our networked Baytech RPC Remote Power Control units. All our gear is also connected to Baytech DS series remote console access units. This provides us with complete out-of-band network and dial-in access to our equipment at the power and console level. Simply put: we can turn on/off the power to a server remotely and access the server's BIOS via console access. We can even do this if the machine doesn't boot properly. This minimizes administration response time. In addition to our own equipment mentioned above, ThePlanet also provides 24/7 hands-and-eyes support for our equipment. In the event we need something taken care of, ThePlanet is there for us. They have over one million dollars in Sun and Intel parts in inventory - ready in case a piece of equipment needs replacing. Linode.com's network and management infrastructure is world-class in performance, reliability, and scalability. Top of page
