GOOD COP, BAD COP
by John Lionheart 9-18-2000

...works like this: The authorities have a crime suspect in custody. (they used to do this a lot on the old TV show, Dragnet). They send in two cops to question the suspect. In the course of questioning, one cop bullies the suspect, roughs him up, the other cop pulls the "bad cop" off the suspect, sends him out of the room. The "good cop" then tells the suspect, "sorry, but bad cop gets so out of control, if you'll just give us what we want, i'll try and keep him off you, if not, well..., i'm afraid i can't control him"

It's much the same with Gore/Bush and their corporate masters. They have both been "hired" to work toward one end - to the complete corporate domination of the public sphere, and the elimination of an independent press and the democratic one-person one-vote tradition (in illustration see the attached list of 50+ corporations that have given $50,000+ to both candidates - they don't care who wins, as long as they have controlling access to the winner). They know they'll get more or less the same result.

So here, today in Election 2000, you have Al Gore as "good cop" and George W. as "bad cop". Now Al and George probably do have ego investment in the contest and are not truly aware of just how meaningless their own personal victory or defeat is to their controlling corporate sponsors. Don't kid yourself, though, neither of the two "major" party candidates, Al or George, really give a spit whether abortion is legal or illegal (the supposedly big issue dividing them) and you can be sure that the matter is of no concern whatsoever to the corporations who sponsor them both. This is just the shadow boxing to deter the attention from any real alternative.

What of the other differences between the candidates? Take their attitudes toward the environment: like in "good cop, bad cop," one cop is "nice" toward the captive, the other cop is "mean". When you're in a powerless situation facing the the prospect of extinction, these sham differences seem important, but, if you can take a breath, and gain perspective, hey, you may realize, they're both cops, they both want to hang you, or, rather, they both want to get what their superiors want from you (your surrender) and go somewhere and drink beer. You are nothing to them. Less than nothing. "Good cop, bad cop" is a game they play to speed up your surrender to the system. They could care less about you or the truth of what you want or deserve.

Don't Waste Your Vote on Gore/Bush.
