INVESTIGATE THE RSPCA

MARGARET HOUSE SPEAKS OUT

(cutting from the latters page of the Daily Telegraph 20/6/01)

SIR—It is inaccurate to state that only two people have been expelled from the RSPCA in living memory (report, June 16).

In 1988, five RSPCA members, including myself, were expelled from the society for producing the RSPCA members' Watchdog newsletter. One of the aims of this newsletter is to seek justice for members who have been unjustly treated — and there are many.

Following a successful legal action, all five of us were admitted back into membership and the WATCHDOG newsletter continued from October 1987 until the present day.

Having rejoined in 1991, I would now welcome an inquiry into the management of the RSPCA. As the present society was formed by an ACT of Parliament in 1932, I believe that the Government should conduct an inquiry into the powers exercised by the RSPCA Council and also into the use of the society's funds.

Mrs Margaret House, Horley,

Surrey
