January 8, 2000 - EX GL Casting Director Betty Rea passed away at age 82 in LA on December 23, 1999. Rea was GL's Casting Director from 1970 to 1996 and also cast As The World Turns at the sametime from 1979 to 1983. Some of the actors she discovered were Kevin Bacon, Margaret Colin, Dana Delany, Melina Kanakaredes, Nia Long, Meg Ryan, Sherry Stringfield and Marissa Tomei.

January 8, 2000 - Congratulations to Melina Kanakaredes (ex- Eleni) and her husband Peter Constantanides. They are expecting their first baby this summer. This will be their first child.

January 9, 2000 - In the latest SID poll, GL did very well. Among the top 5 actors were Kurt McKinney (Matt), voted number 1, number 3 was Bradley Cole (Richard) and Justin Deas (Buzz) was number 4. January 17, 2000 - Congratulations to Liz Keifer (Blake) and her husband Bobby Convertino. They welcomed their son, Keifer Jack, into the world on Saturday, January 8th. He weighed in at 9lbs.

January 20, 2000 - Joie Lenz (Michelle) will appear February 7th in the primetime movie, Mary and Rhoda which also stars Mary Tyler Moore and Valerie Harper. Joie plays Rose, Mary Richards daughter.

January 20, 2000 - Congratulations to Hayden Panettiere (Lizzie) who has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the Spoken Word Album for Children category. She was one of the voices on A Bug's Life Read Along. The Grammy Awards will air on February 23rd.

January 20, 2000 - Guiding Light will celebrate it's 63rd Anniversary on January 25th. Congratulations!

February 6, 2000 - In an interview with the New York Post this past week, Joie Lenz was quoted as saying she does not plan on staying with the show when her contract is up in October.

February 10, 2000 - Thom Christopher (Colonel Dax) can currently be seen in the Off-Broadway play, Night Blooming Jasmine which was written by Paul Rauch's wife, Israela Margalit. The play can be seen at New York City's Tribeca Playhouse on 111 Reade St from February 10th through March 4th.

February 10, 2000 - Mark Dobies has been signed in the contract role of Dr. Noah Chase. He is an old friend of Richard's who will start appearing on March 3rd.

February 21, 2000 - Cruise with the stars: Paulo Benedeti will be among some other soap opera stars for 7 nights aboard Holland America's new "Zaandam" Luxury Liner sailing roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale on June 24, 2000 to July 1, 2000. February 23, 2000 - Ski with the Soap Stars is a fundraiser for Margaretville Hospital. The GL actors that will be there are Beth Chamberlin (Beth), Brittany Snow (Susan), Jerry Ver Dorn (Ross), Paul Wasilewski (Max) and Laura Wright (Cassie). February 25, 2000 - Ron Raines (Alan) will be singing the National Anthem at Madison Square Garden on March 5th for the Knicks and Utah Jazz game.

March 4, 2000 - Good news. Grant Aleksander has signed a contract agreement with GL.

March 14, 2000 - Susan Pratt will be returning sometime in April to reprise her role of Claire Ramsey. Susan played the role from 1983-1987. Claire Ramsey is Michelle's biological mother.

March 14, 2000 - Tammy Blanchard (Drew) has landed a part in a pilot series for CBS called Further Adventures which will also star Mary Stuart Masterson. Tammy Blanchard's contract will expire in August and it has been rumored she will leave the show at that time.

March 18, 2000 - The Daytime Emmy Award Nominations were announced on March 15th. The list of nominees are as follows:

April 14, 2000 - Congratulations go out to Mark Dobies (Noah) and his wife Linda Hill who gave birth to Olivia Christine on April 17th. Olivia weighed in at 7lbs. 15oz. Mark and Linda also have a 2 year old daughter named Francesca.

April 14, 2000 - TVGuide is reporting that a casting call has gone out for a replacement for Beth Ehlers (Harley). Apparently contract negotiations are ongoing. To show your support for Beth, I would suggest snail mailing both TPTB and Beth Ehlers. Please remember snail mail counts more to TPTB than e-mail does.

April 18, 2000 - Good news! Beth Ehlers (Harley) has signed a new contract. No word on the length of the contract as of yet.

May 9, 2000 - Soap Opera Weekly is reporting Rebecca Budig (ex- Michelle) was due to be married on May 4th.

May 11, 2000 - This from Crystal Chappell's Fan Club, Jacob Walker Sabatino was born May 11th at 12:47am weighing 9lbs. 2 3/4oz. and measuring in at 21 1/4 inches long. Mom and baby are reportedly doing great. Congratulations.

May 12, 2000 - Laura Bell Bundy (Marah) recently participated in a workshop for a Broadway version of the film Hairspray.

May 21, 2000 - Kim Zimmer (Reva) has resigned her contract. No word on how long the contract is for.

May 29, 2000 - Guiding Light will be airing public service announcements June 1st and 2nd for the National Marrow Donor Program. The PSA's coincides with Lizzie's leukemia storyline.

June 2, 2000 - Melina Kanakaredes (ex- Eleni) and her husband Peter Constantinides welcomed their first child, a daughter, on May 23rd.

June 7, 2000 - Soap Opera Weekly is reporting that despite the rumor mill, Paul Anthony Stewart (Danny) has no intention of leaving GL anytime soon.

June 7, 2000 - Michael O'Leary (Rick) is the Performer of the Week in the current issue of Soap Opera Digest dated June 13, 2000. He was named performer of the week for the storyline regarding his status as a doctor and his scenes with Abby.

June 7, 2000 - E-Online is reporting that Nia Long (ex-Kat) is expecting her first child with fiance Massai Dorsey. The baby is due in December. You can catch Nia Long on the big screen in Big Momma's House.

June 7, 2000 - Mary Alice Dwyer-Dobbin has confirmed that Claire Labine, her son Matthew Labine and daughter Eleanor Labine Mancusi has been hired to head the writing team at GL effective immediately. Their material will start airing August 7th.

June 24, 2000 - Guiding Light will be given a special recognition award from the The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for bringing national awareness of Leukemia to daytime viewers. Paul Rauch and Mickey Dwyer-Dobbin will be on hand at the festivities at Tavern on the Green on Thursday, June 29 to receive the award and some GL actors will be in attendance.

June 24, 2000 - For those that watch GL on WJZ in Baltimore, they will be pre-empting the show on July 4th for the Orioles games scheduled from 1-4pm.

July 2, 2000 - Hunt Block (ex- Ben Warren) can now be found on As The World Turns starting July 19th as Craig Montgomery. He just finished his latest role on All My Children.

July 2, 2000 - Bradley Cole (Richard) will be performing in A Midsummer Night's Dream in Princeton, NJ this month. Performances are on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for 4 consecutive weekends starting June 30th at 7pm. Mr. Cole will be playing Theseus, the Duke of Athens and Oberon, the King of the Fairies. July 30, 2000 - In the August 1st issue of SOD, Paul Anthony Stewart (Danny) made it into SOD's Soaps Sexiest Men and Women. Joie Lenz (Michelle) says "Paul is sexy because he's got those eyes that are mysterious and seductive." Rebecca Budig (ex- Michelle) also made it in.

August 5, 2000 - Laura Wright (Cassie) and her husband John are expecting their first child sometime this winter. Their first daughter, Lauren, is a year and a half.

August 13, 2000 - Flowers for Maeve Kinkead were sent on July 10th. A card was sent a few days later. I received approximately $75.00 in donations and the flowers I sent cost $83.52. I had sent out an e-mail on this but I have recieved some e-mails wondering about the flowers. I am very sorry if some or all of you did not recieve it. I have searched the last 2 days for the copy of the e-mail but cannot find it. I have not recieved anything as of yet from Maeve but will let ya know when I do.

August 20, 2000 - In the August 22nd issue of Soap Opera Weekly, Brittany Snow (Susan) was named the Outstanding Performer for the week of July 24th. The storyline at the time was when Susan ran away and Max found her. SOW says about her performance, "Snow's perfoemances are difficult to analyze because she never seems to be acting. With many actors, regardless of how good they are, one can often spot the technique, the inner workings of their mind as they deliver a performance. Snow didn't deliver a great performance this week; it seemed to just flow out of her."

He is such a gentleman. I have the utmost respect for him , he did it with grace and love. My character it seems, has been written into a corner and our new writers were at odds as to how to resolve it. I guess it just all boils down to story and what propels the show along or what hinders it. I will miss everyone so much....I had a wonderful time there and the GL family has helped me through some really difficult times. I will remember this always as one of the bright points in my life. I feel that the show allowed me to do some of the best work in my career and it was always a joy and a challenge. I want to say right now that I have NEVER felt so much warmth from fans as I have felt with you. You are a joy to me.And I am honored that I was able to entertain you for the time that we had. The award recognizes children and teens for their outstanding work in film, television, stage and music. The presentation ceremony will be held on Nov. 19 at the Wilshire Theatre in Beverly Hills.

October 1, 2000 - Rebecca Budig (ex- Michelle) has been selected as the latest addition to the WWF family as a co-host for WWF Heat. Buddig - a Cincinnati School of the Performing Arts graduate - was also seen in Batman Forever, co-hosted Sports Illustrated for Kids and starred in many other films. Heat will be changed to a new format, shown on MTV and broadcasted live from WWF New York in the heart of Times Square. Budig, DJ Scribble, Michael Cole and Tazz will be hosting the show, with Cole and Tazz calling the action for the matches that will air during Heat - taped on Tuesdays before Smackdown! "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and the group responsible for his new theme song, Disturbed, will also be on the show for the premiere.

November 5, 2000 - The GL Fan Club is reporting that the head writing team, The Labines and the show have both agreed to dissolve their relationship. No word on who will be taking over the duties of head writer as of yet.

November 5, 2000 - On October 29th, GL held their annual Fan Club Gathering. Mary Stuart (Meta) received a standing ovation. The gathering was hosted by Jerry verDorn and included performances by Victoria Platt (Vicky), as well as Laura Bell Bundy (Marah) and her singing partner, Amber Rhodes.

November 27, 2000 - After careful reconsideration, the powers that be at GL have decided against replacing the Labines. They will remain the headwriters of the show. It has also been reported that they have spent time with the actors in order to learn more about the characters.
