Lambert's Air Group-15 was stationed at Alameda in the bay area, then Los Alamitos near Long Beach.  AG-15 transitioned from Grumman Bearcats to the Douglas Skyraider and flew aboard the USS Boxer for sea duty.  This might be Lambert's plane on the right.

The amazing single engined Douglas Skyraider carried a bomb load nearly half that of the four engined B-29 Superfortress!  Designed during WWII but arriving too late to fight, it would see considerable action in Korea and Vietnam.

Its principal mission was the low-level destruction of ground targets - a specialty Lambert had honed to a fine art during the war years.
