Charles W. Jarvis, Chairman and Chief Executive of United Seniors Association, expressed deep disappointment and dismay at the Senate’s vote against development of American energy resources in Alaska’s ANWR.

"I am astonished at the Senate’s refusal to develop energy resources within the United States. I cannot understand how anyone can possibly vote to keep our Nation at risk and dangerously dependent on Mideast Energy Barons. It is outrageous," Mr. Jarvis said.

"The members of the Senate should be asking one question before voting on this issue: Will this make America safer?" he said. "Clearly, the Senate’s vote to suppress development in a tiny sliver of ANWR makes America less safe."

"Senator Daschle and his Senate Leadership are playing dangerous political games with our national security," said Mr. Jarvis. "If Senator Daschle had only worked with President Bush on his comprehensive energy package, national security would be strengthened, not weakened as it now is."

"Who wins in a vote like this? Tom Daschle? Environmental extremists? Certainly not Main Street America. The real winners are Iraq and Iran which recently threatened to cut off energy supplies to the United States. For the Senate to be a handmaiden to the policies of rogue regimes is unconscionable," he said.

Mr. Jarvis has twenty years of experience in dealing with these energy issues from the environmental and policy perspectives.
