 Course Overview

Description
This course is for students who would like to experience the pleasure of capturing the beauty of portraiture in porcelain. It is a detailed explanation of how different protraiture techniques are achieved.

  • The basic materials required and techniques will be discussed with instructions explained.
  • It will be aimed at those with an artistic flare but not neccessarily an artist's training. The student can expect to learn to be creative without an art background.
  • It is not age or gender specific.
  • Artistic expression will develop as an understanding of the medium grows.

Who should take this course?
To take this course would be to the advantage of artists who are already painters of porcelain. (china painters) However this course will open doors to a person to be creative so long as he or she has an artistic inclination. By the end of the course no matter the background you as the student come from you will produce work of merit. With patience and perseverence you will be surprised how easily you can produce a portrait image. The course is not recommended for younger readers however as the material does require concentration and a fairly well developed sense of discipline.

Objectives

  • The basics of porcelain painting including the firing process will be discussed.
  • I will make suggestions about paints, brushes, mediums and the porcelain shape to be painted.
  • You will learn about
  • balance
  • colour theory as it is relevant to porcelain painting
  • proportion of the features of the face and how to map out measurments.
  • You will gain an understanding of how to mix colours and how to make application of layers of colour through the subsequent firings.
  • The instruction will be step by step. There will be adequate guidelines so that painting the supplied portrait image is achievable.
  • Through out the course questions and answers will be encouraged and I hope you will attempt the course quizzes as this is a good way to enhance your knowledge and ensure retention of the main ideas and instructions.
These are the most important Objectives.
  • Develop the skills that will enable you to capture a 'true likeness.'
  • I will be encouraging you to expand your knowledge about this fine art and all it has to offer.

My name is Aileen. I am an Australian artist from Queensland and look forward to sharing my knowledge and guiding you through this course.

It has been a privilege to appear on TV and in various magazines featuring my art. As a child I drew and played with paint, this continued into adulthood but playing with paints developed into exploring, experimenting and becoming knowledgeable. Many commissions come my way ,especially after I "perform" painting demonstrations. One such exciting commission was from the then Managing Director of Canson Art products. I was then invited to demonstrate their products via Art/Craft dealers.
