Village United must have thought
they had an improved chance of containing the
Champions after battling with them in the rain
for 36 minutes on Wednesday. However, the rematch
on Saturday after the rain forced a cancellation
of Wednesdays' game proved to be beyond the capabilities
of the Trelawny based team as they found no answer
for two well taken goals by Walter Boyd and Kevin
Wilson, pushing the Champions back to the top
of the league with 19 points and a game in hand.
Arnett, now the only unbeaten team in the competition,
will be looking for win number seven when they
face arch rivals Tivoli Gardens on Wednesday at
Up Park Camp. Both Camps had hoped that the game
would have been played elsewhere, but prevailing
circumstances dictated that the timing is not
right.
Arnett totally dominated their opponents in the
first half, allowing them only one shot. The champion's
won the battle for midfield supremacy from early
with Cornel Chinsue having a fine game alongside
Davis, Williams and Neil. Only a strong tackling
Winston Anglin playing in front of the Village
defense prevented a Ricketts in goal from facing
more Arnett fire. Village got their first scare
when Fabian Davis's left side cross was well cut
out by Ricketts with Richardson lurking unmarked
at the back post. Village were forced into an
early substitution having to take out an injured
Germaine Anderson with Dwayne Cole.
Wilson spurned his first chance on goal when
a fumble by a Village defender gave him an unchallenged
shot on goal, which he sent into the overhead
signboards. But the opening goal was not far away
as in minute 36 Neil brilliantly stole a ball
on the right side of midfield, dribbled to the
edge of the area and beautifully set up an unmarked
Boyd. The former Jamaica and Swansea City striker
nonchalantly dismissed the challenge or national
custodian Donavon Ricketts leaving him on the
turf, then slotting into an empty net.

NPL goal account |
As per usual Arnett stepped up the pressure and
wily Boyd was fouled close to the corner flag
after beating his marker. Wilson then stepped
up a delivered a memorable free that floated out
of the reached of Ricketts to go in off the back
post.
9 minutes after the restart Boyd engineered a
brilliant move down the middle with the ball moving
to Wilson then Chinsue, but the final pass was
just out of Richardson's reach. The crowd came
to life in minute 65 when a long cross from Richardson
was expertly brought down by Wilson who managed
to return the pass to the source, but Richardson
handled the ball.
Striker Thomas Grant spilled one of the few chances
his team got at a consolation goal when he failed
to capitalize on a rare error in the home teams
defense allowing them to recover and effect the
clearance. Anglin's pinpoint cross to the back
post was totally miss hit by a lonely Village
player.
