Perished on the battle field along side the infamous General George Custer.
Extract from Donegal newspaper article (date still
to be established but within the last two years):
"James was born at Drumbar near Donegal Town in
1847. The house at the junction of the Old Laghey Road
and Tullyloskin Road still stands. He had three brothers
and several sisters. When he was 19 years old he quietly
left home one night and the family never heard from
him again. Many years afterwards, one of his brothers,
now an old man, often mentioned James, wondering what
had happened to him"
... now several columns of standard battle description,
followed finally by:
"Today, James Bustard's name can be seen inscribed
on the Battle site monument in Montana."
His actual date of birth recorded in the Donegal Parish
Register is 21 May 1844. A number of his brothers and
sisters, and other family members are buried in a family
plot in Donegal Abbey, Donegal Town. His parents were
James and Elizabeth Bustard.
