What is Gush?
Gush makes instant messaging and news aggregation simple, functional, and attractive. Gush excels at the functionality it provides without including the kitchen sink. Its not just pretty looks -- Gush provides several unique features such as Split Chat, real IM conversation management, IM Announcements, and a tabbed News Reader.

Gush also has many advantages over AOL IM, MSN Messenger, and Yahoo! Messenger by virtue of using the standards-based, open architecture Jabber/XMPP network. Unlike legacy networks, Jabber is not centralized giving flexibility to companies while avoiding a single point of failure. In addition, Jabber/XMPP, and thus Gush, strives to be secure as possible. Download Gush and find out what you've been missing.

Gushing for Gush

Stowe Boyd has several comments and improvement ideas for Gush on "Get Real".

Stowe's screenshot of our Split Chat conversation is of course independent proof that Split Chat isn't something we created in Photoshop :)

We'll be talking more about transports, a server-side XML-RPC agent for posting to blogs via Announcements, Mac OS X version, and more soon.

Gush Update

Gush has been updated to version 1.0.1 which fixes a couple of small but harmless bugs. To upgrade, just uninstall Gush and then install the new version. Uninstalling does not remove any of your profile information.

Invisible and Blocking in Gush

Gush makes use of XMPP's privacy management to be able to appear invisible and also to be able to block communication towards other people on your Buddy List.

Unfortunately, there is still a small problem with the server relating to removing invisibility or unblocking a contact. Once you unblock the person, they can see you online, but you won't be able to see them online until you log off and then log back online.

However, appearing invisible and blocking does work. In the mean time, you can steer clear of these features and everything ought to be fine. We'll post here when the issue is resolved.
