    European Forum: Internet with a human face - a common responsibility
    What kind of information society do we want our children to live in? What can be done to marginalise harmful and illegal material on the internet and promote the democratic, educational and cultural potential of the all-embracing network? What are the respective roles of public officials, parents, teachers, civil society organisations, ISPs and software producers? Leading experts in the field will share their experience and suggest ways forward during the 2nd European Forum on harmful and illegal Internet content (Warsaw, 26-27 March 2004). The organisers, the Council of Europe and SafeBorders, which is sponsored by the European Commission, invite all stakeholders to take part in launching a truly pan-European platform for cooperation, debate, dissemination of information and exchange of best practices.     30 January 2004:
    Trafficking in human beings: the Committee continues work on a draft convention
    The Committee on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings will meet in the Human Rights Building from 3 to 5 February. On its agenda are various provisions of the draft European Convention currently being drawn up. These include measures to protect and promote the rights of victims - including gender equality issues - and questions relating to substantive criminal law, investigation, prosecution and procedural law, and international co-operation.

    29 January 2004:
    Key case-law extracts, offering key passages from Court judgments for each Article of the Convention, has now been published in English.

 
 

    26 January 2004:
    The opinion of the Advisory Committee of the Council of Europe's Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities on measures taken in this field by Azerbaijan has been made public at the country's initiative.
    The comments submitted by Azerbaijan have also been made public and are available on-line.
    The Advisory Committee of 18 independent experts drew up the opinion on the basis of the state report and other materials and after conducting a visit to Azerbaijan. The opinion will soon be examined by the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers, which will then adopt its conclusions and possible recommendations.
    The opinions of the Advisory Committee are made public upon the adoption of the Committee of Ministers' conclusions and recommendations, unless the country concerned agrees to make the opinion public at an earlier stage.
