Our
Philosophy and Approach
SGH works closely with building owners, occupants,
and other interested parties to develop and execute an investigation
and repair program that identifies and prioritizes a building's
renovation needs. We investigate and diagnose the building's problems
using both non-destructive and destructive techniques, when applicable,
to evaluate existing visible and concealed conditions. By analyzing
and evaluating conditions observed in the field and laboratory test
results, we determine the best means of intervention. SGH produces
repair options that are consistent with the cultural significance
of the building and which are sensitive to the needs of the owners
and occupants. We work with contractors and preservation craftsmen
throughout the construction phase to ensure technical performance
of the designed repairs and sensitivity to the building's historic
fabric. Throughout the evaluation and design process, SGH is committed
to following the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment
of Historic Properties, and other nationally and internationally
recognized charters for building conservation.
