News Details for Police Investigators Arrest Man In Connection with Getty Mart Homicide

Police investigators have identified the man responsible for the Getty Mart homicide that occurred in our city on Tuesday, May 13, 2003.

On Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at 2:15 p.m., police investigators arrested Tobias Samuel Morgan, 21, of the 3000 block of Blitz Court, Virginia Beach. Morgan was arrested for a robbery that occurred on Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at a Pizza Hut located in the 800 block of Holland Road. Morgan was charged with Robbery, Abduction-two counts, Use of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony-two counts, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony. He was held without bond in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.

This arrest led to the discovery by investigators that Morgan was responsible for the Getty Mart homicide that occurred in our city on Tuesday, May 13, 2003.

On Thursday, July 10, 2003 at 3:00 p.m., police investigators arrested Morgan in connection with the Getty Mart homicide. He has been charged with First Degree Murder, Robbery, Abduction, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, Use of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Wearing a Mask in Public. He remains in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.

In addition, investigators learned that Morgan’s accomplice in both crimes was Lekeith Devon Speller, 21, of the 600 block of Governors Way, Virginia Beach.

The arrests were the culmination of many exhaustive hours of investigative work and numerous Crime Solvers tips.

The case remains under investigation by members of the Department’s Robbery Squad and Homicide Squad with Detective Tom Shattuck and Detective Sean Coerse as the lead investigators.
