Missionaries' son narrowly escapes Madrid bomb blasts
United Methodist officials received an e-mail from the Rev. Mark Abbott, who serves in Madrid with his wife, Diane. Their son, Chris, 12, arrived at the train station minutes after bombs exploded. Nearly 200 people died and more than 1,400 were injured.
“His car pulled in next to the affected train,” Mark Abbott reported. “He saw the demolished car, dead bodies, severely-injured people.”

Messer views book as 'wake-up call' to AIDS crisis
With 42 million people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide and 7,000 dying daily from the disease, the church’s failure to take serious action puts its very soul at stake.
That is the view of United Methodist minister, Donald Messer, in his new book, Breaking the Conspiracy of Silence: Christian Churches and the Global AIDS Crisis. Messer considers it a wake-up call to Christians who have stood on the sidelines as millions have suffered and died from HIV/AIDS.
